The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there. They do things the wrong way and make bad mistakes that would never happen in other places. Sometimes things go right, but the rejoicing is short lived since more often than not they go wrong. Their natives are like automatons, constantly moving and doing, but never able to get out of their own way. Strangely enough, many of us have become denizens of their nation. It has become our necessary evil to not only visit, but to do it regularly. Without frequent holidays, we would soon forget how well off we are in our homelands. We go for fear of becoming like them; having the terrain we know and love dissipating into places we cannot stand anymore, until we are then sucked into her vast empire, since we cannot fight it. Should this one day be the case, as it has been on occasion, we will have to wait until a rebel gives us the bright idea that we don’t have to suffer anymore, and that we can leave whenever we so desire. With this one person, the thought spreads to more people and expands quickly. More forces band together, fighting the tyranny of this alien realm. Sadly, many exiles have mixed with the local populace and decided to stay or to bring their new found barbaric customs with them back home. Then these outside ways become part of the original culture, and a new process of cleansing has begun, until these ideas and people are expelled from the region, making the land of the future clear and free of any impurities.

A/N: So this is a (very) short essay I wrote also for my Creative Writing class, where the first line had to be 'the past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.' I'm posting my work from class so you all know I'm not slacking off in updating Beyond Sight, and also because I want other readers opinions. Review and tell me what you think.
