Dark Horse
A/N: Because my formatting is always screwed up on this site I’ll be putting the links to where you can view what the poem should really look like. If you don’t care fine, but I write with a lot of spaces and it makes a big difference to me. Here’s the original format: /writing/TheCaptain/259716/
Dark Horse
I rode up…so unsuspecting
They never did think I’d make it
(even though they said they did)
I know.
I know what they’re really thinking.
Quit pretending you care
It makes me want to give up
Stick to what you know and ignore me
That way I have the desire to be more than you
But I haven’t made it yet
(and I’ve fallen so hard into their cage)
(the same cage)
I thought I’d made it
But this self-medication is destroying me
(why did you give up so easily?)
I thought a lot of things.
Now I’ve got cannabis coating my lungs
(i toss tennis balls back and forth for enjoyment)
Now I’ve got my liver soaking up this vodka like a sponge
(and watching that yellow square guy is suddenly fun)
But I haven’t given up yet
(i don’t get knocked down that quickly)
I have yet to surface from this whirlpool
But I will breathe fresh air soon
(because I refuse to follow you)
There is one more furlong.
(and I’ve still got my chance.)
