Ruth Ruth sat there, alone in the sandbox. Her feet hidden in the pale colored sand. She felt the rough dirt fall in place between her little toes . No one would talk to her, let alone look at her. Today was a despicable day for Ruth to be Ruth. She sat there in the sandbox playing with the sand. Letting it slide down and fall freely between her skinny little fingers. She frowned as the sand fell onto her dress. Blown there by a small gust of wind. She stood and brushed her hands off on her cute little dress that was decorated in bright flowers. Some the resembled daisies. She patted her dress so the rest of the sand would fall off. She needed a friend to play with. A lovely little friend that would play with her everyday. As if her wish was granted a small boy stood before her. His lips curved into a wide smile. She smiled back her face radiant with delight.
"Hi boy," she greeted him. He smiled even wider and gave her a hearty wave. She decided that he would be her friend. A nice person that would at least play with her. She raised her hand for the timid little boy to shake. He shook his head and continued to stand there. His smile going to a faint dim smile. Curious Ruth looked at him, his navy blue eyes seemed to look at her with just the same curiosity. "Will you play with me?" she asked. He nodded and smiled at her again his freckles seemingly separating on his face. Ruth's eyes widened with joy and she jumped up and down with glee in the sandbox. as the boy began to step inside it.. "Lets build a big big castle, really really tall!" she exclaimed raising her hands above her head. The boy nodded and smiled. She plopped back down in the box and began to pick up a tiny green shovel. The boy sat down next to her with the little red bucket he picked up. They both seemed to have fun together, sitting there under the bright yellowness of the sun. They built it together laughing and playing as they sat there. "I'm Ruth," she finally said with a bright smile the lit the already bright sandbox. The boy looked at her, his face again racked with curiosity. He the looked over towards the swing. A grown woman was calling him over. He smiled the widest smile Ruth had ever seen. He leaped up from the sandbox and ran into her outstretched arms. They embraced each other in a hug. Standing there for a moment, mother and son. She released him and placed her gentle hand upon his head. "Who were you talking to just now dear?" she asked him quizzically. He looked back to the sandbox where the young girl named Ruth stood. "Ruth," he told his mother smiling up at her. She smiled and shook her head back and forth. Patting him on the back and ushering him away from the sandbox she barley uttered, "Hmm Anthony you and your great creative imagination."
