A Bump in The Night

A bump in the night, a spark, a howl.
Gravel crunching, leather twisting.
Grunting, low voices talking.
Frightened, scared, afraid, nervous.
Lightning flashes, thunder cackles.
Rain pats on the window, as if simply to annoy.
The door slams shut, your wide awake.
Gut says scream, head says keep it shut.
Wishing, praying, hoping all be well,
clutching your bear, your only comfort, soothing soft.
It's soft but worn fur warms your heart as you fall fast asleep.
