People like my writing style. I don’t like my writing. I don’t know why I’m doing this.

Prologue

Demise of the Kakashi

There wasn’t the existence of seas with water. No. The entire world only received water from rivers and lakes that were filled from the sky. Ships that wore no wheels sailed through the sand, for the sand moved like water would, pushing the sailors onward. There were villages called the Edge Villages because they were built upon rocky edges that the sailors would climb a rope to get to. Not a lot of people wanted to be a sand pirate or sailor because the sand was dangerous and could swallow entire ships. Others who were brave gathered to become crewmates and went out to discover all that was out there.

Young Captain Elvis Mogant scanned the darkened sand for signs of the fallen ship that sent out a blaze of fireworks into the sky. The fireworks were only used as a help symbol, and the ship that was closest, whether it was pirate or sailor, would come to help. The Roamer was the closest to the ship. As their captain, Elvis ordered his crew to travel to the area. As they neared, none of them could see any part of the ship. He was about to give up hope for anything to remain of the ship when a cabin boy shouted at the sight.

“A piece with a bundle of grey!” the boy shouted, jumping up and down with excitement. Elvis ran over to the edge and ordered a ladder to be lowered. Swinging himself upon the ladder’s end, he allowed himself to slide down to the sighting, which bumped against his ship. It had to be part of the Kakashi!

The bundle of grey was an infant clutching a stuffed tiny black bear. A white cross with a circle around the intersection of the lines was on the stomach of the toy. The little child was sleeping peacefully upon a piece of ship that was possibly part of the fallen ship. Elvis was careful not to fall anymore than waist deep into the sand when he reached out for the child. Once grabbing it, he noticed that it was the ship’s name on that board. The feared Kakashi finally sunk within the sand, leaving this child alone to face the horrible sand.

The captain of the Kakashi was James Coffin, a ruthless man that wanted to know all about the world. He was good at anything he did and had all a pirate wanted, which was money, women, and power. He never had any family members on board because he believed they would be bad luck. Some people called him Blood-Eyed Coffin because of his blood red eyes, but he was also known as Old Man Coffin by his crew alone although he was only twenty-eight with silver hair that looked like he was old at birth. No one called him that outside the ship unless they were on friendly terms with him, which was very few. He believed that humans needed a strong leader.

“Captain Mogant, what is it?” a lookout shouted. Elvis looked up and smiled. Smiling on the Roamer from Elvis was rare though he did smile a lot, and it would usually creep his crew out. “Is it gold! Maybe the captain was rich!” The whole crew agreed with that, but they were soon silent when Captain Mogant climbed aboard. He stood tall and still had that smile on his face.

“Welcome our new crew member, Kakashi, the sole survivor of the feared Kakashi. Old Captain Coffin is probably no more,” Elvis said. The crew fell silent and couldn’t believe it. James Coffin lived through the worst storms of them all just to get to an Edge Village because his sister was dying! He couldn’t be any more. The sand loved him!

No one noticed a tiny rowboat floating away. The man sitting in the center held a bright blue bow with a tight fist while his other hand held his head, covering his eyes. Tears were falling fast as he was smiling. Sadness and happiness fell over his heart, but it didn’t matter anymore. His little son was in good hands while the sand swallowed his darling wife. James looked up at the moonless sky and wondered if his darling was up there. He smiled and closed his strange colored eyes. His little boy was at least safe and sound with Elvis.

Until next time, see ya!
