On Learning From a Great Many Follies

On Learning From a Great Many Follies

I’ve lingered in the gardens

under the moon,

and I’ve betrothed a sun

that came too soon;

I’ve hung my lantern

on the steps at noon

and silently prayed

for Autumn to bloom;

I’ve wandered in the dark

and poured rainbows in drains;

I’ve planted trees with force

and my kisses the same;

I’ve licked splintered bowls

and I’ve danced in the rain,

but I have not since loved

and will never again.
