“Oh god, I’m going to die!” Justine shouted, clinging to the top of the wall. It had so far been proven that the whole ‘going over the wall’ idea had been one of the worst plans ever conducted in the entirety of mankind. Sophie had been the first, and only successful, female over the wall; Gemma’s pants had managed to not rip open and display her ‘Mostly Mango’ panties to the men on the other side of the wall. Brendan had caught her and, after commenting on how much lighter she felt than she looked, passed her off to Erich.
”Justine,” Gemma was already over the wall and onto the accomplished side. She hadn’t done so gracefully, though- her heel got caught on one of the twisted vines and she tumbled over. “You aren’t going to die. Just jump and…” she looked around, there was no way she was letting this tease be caught by her boyfriend. “Erich will catch you!” Erich looked startled- he was still holding Sophie from when Brendan had passed her to him. After putting Sophie down he mumbled an affirmative reply and got in position to catch Justine. She jumped without delay.
”Ooh, you’re strong.” She said as he caught her. Oh hardly, Sophie grumbled, you weigh as much as an empty potato sack.
The guys clearly had done some reasearch for their little plan because they knew that the team never kept the back window of the locker room locked, as they were told to, and that on a night like tonight it would be unlocked as usual. They had separated into groups after heaving themselves in through the small window and Sophie herself had been cast as ‘the lookout’ with Gemma and Aidan.
“Why does there have to be three lookouts?” Sophie asked charily.
”That is just how it works my darlin’,” Aidan replied with a smirk as he placed his arms confidently over each girls’ shoulder. Sophie had her suspicions about Aidan, and how he somehow arranged to be alone with two girls. Though he probably hadn’t wanted to get his two best friend’s girlfriends with him on lookout, he was happy with what he was getting.
“You know, if you two are cold or something we could just go over there and-“
“You’re unbelievable,” Gemma scoffed and jerked herself away from Aidan. She reached into the duffle bag sitting on the flooor and pulled their walkie-talkie out. Gemma pressed the red power button and turned out the volume.
”Brendan!” she nearly shouted in to the walkie. After letting go of the talk button, there was static for a few moments and then the not-so-clear voice of a man.
”We’re supposed to use our code names. Over,” the voice stated in an amused tone. Sophie identified the voice as Benjy Grey, another member of their school’s swim team. She hadn’t been aware of him being in the guy’s grouping out front when they arrived, so his voice confused her.
”I don’t care about stupid code names,” Gemma responded, “Put Brendan on.”
”You’re supposed to say over. Over.” Sophie could tell Gemma was becoming frustated over Benjy’s childish behaviour, her face was flushed with anger and her left hand was clenched into a fist as if she was ready to throw a punch at the first person that contradicted her. There was radio silence for at least two minutes before Brendan’s voice was finally heard over the walkie. Gemma explained to him how she and Sophie were feeling uncomfortable with Aidan.
”What am I supposed to do, Gem?” He asked her, seemingly distracted with something else. Gemma suggested sending Justine and Tiana down to stay with Aidan and they’d come to where everyone else was. Brendan replied quickly that it was okay and to come on down. Gemma grabbed Sophie by the arm and dragged her out of the room.
Sophie was happy to be away from Aidan, but she couldn’t help the feeling of uneasiness that came over her as she and Gemma walked down the deserted corridor together. It was creepy, and something didn’t feel right to her. The area was an eerie kind of quiet and the only sound that could be heard was the clicking of Gemma’s heels on the stone floor.
Sophie looked out of the windows as they passed by them. In the short distance between the school and the large stonewall, Sophie could clearly see the smoke rising from the SUV. Had the guys left it on this whole time? She knew Eddy was in there, but wasn’t that a waste of gas? Sophie mentally reminded herself to tell the guys that, but she also couldn’t help but notice the unusual silence between herself and Gemma. But just as she was about to open her mouth to say something, she was cut off by Gemma.
”What the hell are you guys doing?”
