Ch. 1—The Beginning
It was midnight. The hedges rustled and suddenly, two shadowy images of cats emerged. Not plump, but elegant and slender cats. With a silent flick from their dark tails, they vanished.
The next day, a thirteen year old girl named Ella was having her breakfast while reading a book about kittens. She was crazy about cats, and knew every species off by heart. She especially liked black cats.
“SPLAT!” Her nearly finished omelette went flying to the floor. She squealed, picked up the omelette and ran out of the house.
After a little while, she stopped, panting. With wide eyes, she heard a velvet “mew”. She looked around carefully and saw a glossy black tail poking out of a bush. She walked silently towards it.
“Mew, mew!” Ella scurried towards the hedge once again. She scooped up the black cat and stroked it gently. “Um…I’ll call you…Starstruck!”
She saw a streak of red flash across Starstruck’s neck. It was a tiny bell. She lightly drew her finger across the golden bell. It tinkled softly, a silent whisper in the air.
“You are the one, Ella, you are the one.”
Ella was so startled that she jumped backwards. “Who are you? Why do you know my name?”
The voice whispered again. “Ella, I’m Starstruck, but I can’t speak now because of the loss of power. Tinkle my bell.”
Ella gingerly pushed the tiny bell, trying not to hurt Starstruck.
Starstruck said, ”Darkness is looming. They took the form of dogs so Silverstreak and I took the form of cats.”
“Silverstreak?” asked Ella curiously, “who’s that?”
“Another magical cat like me! She‘s silver with white streaks on her back. Now, the dogs came to Earth to get the scroll of power, and if they succeed in getting it, they will conquer the Earth. If we get it, then the Earth will be normal, so we have to get the scroll before Lightningfire and Thunderclaw, the dogs, steal it.” Starstruck replied, her strong voice starting to weaken. “Find Silverstreak...” Her voice died down.
Ella went home, thinking how she could find Silverstreak without embarrassing herself.
When she walked into her house, her mother asked, “Honey, where d’you go? Why did you pick up that stay? Let go of it.”
“But mom, she’s not wild plus she likes me. She’ll be my birthday present. Also, can I have a cat gathering?”
“You said so, El, so don’t expect a present from me.”
“Of course. You’re the best!” Ella rushed upstairs in her room.
Her room was violet with millions of anime and cat posters.
She tinkled Starstruck’s bell again.
Her strong but velvety voice said, “Good idea, Ella.”
Ella beamed and started drawing posters for the gathering.
