vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvCHAPTER 2vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
Later, it began a beautiful night lighted by Cyrros and Seyirgha that lighted all Nova palace garden, making the grass look whiter. Inside Vaeros and Aqua room, lighten only by some scented candles and by the moons, everything that the light from these two touched would become a mix of silver and yellow color all over, giving a mystic and dreamy look all over.
Aqua was sitting on her bed, ready to sleep, while Vaeros was sating on a small chair, in front of a rounded mirror, brushing her hair, with thoughtful look on her eyes. Aqua thinking it was strange that her sister would look so far away, said:
- You’re so distant today Vaeros… what’s wrong?
- …Nothing. – answered Vaeros after some silent moments, from which she seemed to had just woke up. But Aqua didn’t seem that convinced, and insisted with a worried tone:
- Vaeros…
- I said it’s nothing, didn’t I? – She answered quickly. – Go to sleep…
Vaeros seemed to be quite bored to give any explanations at all. Maybe she just simply didn’t want to worry her sister, or maybe she simply wasn’t with the patience that was needed to stand the usual jokes that Aqua would make when something would torment Vaeros’ heart. Aqua, knowing that if she would say anything again, it could mean her death, just fell asleep immediately.
Vaeros sighed in relief when she saw Aqua finally asleep, and kept on brushing her hair, one and once again, not paying attention to what she was doing, as if it was automatic. A few moments later, Vaeros glares to the window of her room, at her left, assessing to the beautiful moonlight. She carefully gets up, trying not to wake up Aqua, and goes to the window. Touching the cold glass, first with her hands, and then with her forehead, she looks to the garden as the glass starts to dim, she stares at the nothing.
- I’m so sick of this… - she whispers to herself in a serious tone.
She turns around, and right after she made sure that Aqua was still asleep, she sneaked in her tip toes, to the room door, and got out. Then she closed quietly the door, and walked barefooted through the rooms’ hallway in the main stairs direction, which she walked down quickly, as her black night-dress flew freely on her body curves as she softly walked out of the palace towards the garden. There she closed her eyes while walking on the soft and cool grass beneath her feet. She was enjoying as much as she could that feeling of freedom, and that sweet silence, that magic that she was feeling as she walked forward, until she stopped at the fountain, sitting on it’s berm, and touching the water in a soft play, watching the little drops of water falling down her hand as she lifted the water as many times as she wanted. The wind was warm and sweet lilies scented, and seemed to be playing with her hair, making it flow and touching her skin as if a tender lover.
Suddenly she hears footsteps from behind her. Too close. She stays still to make sure she was really hearing those, or if it was her imagination playing tricks on her mind, and looks from the corner of her eyes, stopping her breath, so she could hear better. The steps were sounding closer to her, and then a sound came from the bushes, right behind her. Not a sound that seemed in a rush, it looked more as if whoever that touched them, or that was walking through them, wanted to be hear, but in a soft sound of peace and calm. Vaeros stood up and turned around quickly. She then got the palm of her hands almost together at her waist line. In the center of her hands a small light ball started to grow from a tiny light to a fire ball that she held now in her right hand, as if she was holding a rock to throw. She stepped back once and stood in a defensive position.
- Who’s there? – she asked, trying to keep her voice in a normal tone. Not too loud, as if she was screaming with fear, and not as close to a whisper, so she wouldn’t sound like she was afraid to speak.
In answer to her question, she got a sarcastic laugh, and a black hooded elf could be seen coming out from the bushes in front of Vaeros. He was just a little taller than her, but his body built was enough to make her feel some respect. It wasn’t like a too muscular body type, just an average athletic look, with dry muscles, that gave the perception of being a male. She would know in first place that by nature law he should be much stronger than her, so she stepped back once more. His black leather cloth with a huge hood would only allow her to see his mouth grinning. Not much could be seen from his features, but enough to make sure he was a male, and to tell he was still young, and not much older that Vaeros. The young elf kept on laughing in a low tone, while Vaeros kept her defensive pose against him with the fire ball ready to strike him.
- Show yourself! – she demanded while trying to keep her calm look and to do not show her fear.
- Calm yourself… - he answered laughing even more.
- I don’t find this funny at all!! Show yourself I said! – Vaeros insisted, now in a tone that showed that she wasn’t with the patience to play games at all.
The unknown elf stood still right where he was, and remained static, with his hands behind his backs, like a guard in a rest pose. It could be seen a slight smile behind that huge hood, but nothing more than that until now.
- You have lots of time to know me, your Highness… now, could thou, to do out of kindness, stop that Flame of ye? I won’t be attacking thou princess… I don’t have reasons for such…on the contraire. – he answered calmly.
This strange vagabond spook in an extremely cordial way and with too many words for the likes of Vaeros that was disliking even more this joke, but that actually made her think about stopping her Flame, lowering a slower her hand, but not letting her guard completely down, since her could actually take advantage of her total vulnerability to strike. As soon as she lowered her hand, the elf slowly stepped forward, but Vaeros couldn’t obviously trust her luck so she gave two steps backwards instead. Although the smile she could seen beneath his hood didn’t seem malicious or of someone that would want to harm her, she though for her own good that she shouldn’t trust him at all. At some point she saw lightly his eyes in a soft light, as if they were two spot lights in his face, even though she could understand that they were dark colored eyes, but since it was night, and kind of dark, she didn’t want to rick taking a chance to watch them closely to make sure. What mattered now was: what did he want?
- You do not need to fear me…as I’ve told you, my intentions are not to harm you or reasons to want you any harm…
- What do you want of me? – Vaeros asked harshly.
He remained silence, and kept his smile. Awkwardly that smile seemed to began to be a pleasant smile to Vaeros. She felt a strange comfort in that smile, and he seemed to know that, since he smiled more and more.
- Why aren’t you answering!? It seems to me that the one that is scared here… that one is you! – she said as if trying to pick on him.
- Eheheh! I’ve told ye already, your Highness… You have plenty of time… no… We have plenty of time to both of us find out several answers… -he spook softly to her, almost in a tender voice, as if in love.
Vaeros wasn’t getting the picture at all. Why did he said such a thing, and in such a suspicious tone in his voice? She began to feel confused and kind of astonished.
- Huh?! Both of us?! Find out? Find out what?! What the heck are you talking about?!
Vaeros began to lose patience.
- Let’s just take it slowly sweet princess… shall we? Knowing to wait is a virtue… and each thing at it’s time… - he again spoke calm and softly to her, with a big smile.
This unknown person began to be uncomfortably enjoyable to Vaeros. Several questions popped on her head like popcorns, and she was getting too confused to think rationally. She didn’t know anymore if she should keep defending herself, if she should call the guards, or maybe, simply get closer and lower his hood to see his face. She wanted to know who she was talking to.
After some silence between them, the elf turned around and slowly disappeared behind the bushes from where he came from earlier, as if he hasn’t been there at all, as if he was a fruit of her imagination.
At first Vaeros hesitated, but then some strengths came to fill in her courage to let her step forward towards those bushes. As she got closer she saw something shining on the ground. Vaeros looked down and saw a ring on top of a paper. It looked like a letter. She looked around her carefully. No one was there. Pure silence. That maniac is gone she thought. Then Vaeros crouched close to the ring, and grabbed it, taking a close look at it. It had a pentagram mark inside it, then she grabbed the paper, opened it, and started to read it.
i“Do not worry…you’ll find what you’re looking for, and, if you wish, whatever you desire will be yours…
But be patient… and be comprehensive…
One day you’ll understand,
Keep this ring with you. It’s my first gift for you.
It will give you good luck, strength and guidance…it may even show you the way…
Then one day… You will find…”/i
Vaeros face was filled with an extremely confused look, as she raised the ring at the height of her eyes to watch it closely. But…I’ll find…what? she thought, as she placed the ring in her ring-finger, of her right hand, and now raising up, looking around her once again, searching for that weird elf that came to her this night. She wished that he would show up in that exact moment. She wanted to fill his head with questions that were screaming in hers. But her wishes were in vain. The garden was empty and in total silence. Vaeros finds herself thinking about everything that just happened. Now that I think of it…how the hell did he got in? There’s guards everywhere…and he couldn’t know how to break our security… Her thoughts get interrupted by Aqua that ran to her very worried, still a little bewildered from a sudden and scary way of waking up.
- Vaeros!! – she screamed at some meters of distance of Vaeros.
Vaeros turned around and saw her sister running like crazy in her direction, in her pink night-dress.
- What are you doing up? – Vaeros inquired surprised with Aqua’s worried look.
- Haven’t you heard?! There’s an intruder in the palace!! The guards are searching for him right now…
Vaeros finally understands who she was talking about, she just met that intruder. She gained a weird look on her face, like as if kind of surprised, while Aqua stayed alert looking everywhere. He actually made the alarms ring… but just when he left. He knows exactly what he can and what he can’t do…. This was a kid’s play for him… but why…
- Are you listening to me Vaeros?! – Aqua interrupted once again Vaeros thoughts, she seemed to get the hang of it, while she shacked Vaeros so hard that she almost ripped her head off. – VAEROS!! Are you okay?? Vaeros!!
Aqua was yelling so much that she almost made Vaeros def, and as well headless, since she hasn’t stop shacking her yet. Yet, Vaeros kept her calm look, and answered as if everything was just fine, and as if nothing happened at all.
- He’s already gone…
- WHAT?! He who?!
Aqua wasn’t getting yet the picture of it all, until she saw closely Vaeros’ eyes, and suddenly she understood it all.
- Oh no!! No, no, no!! You’re not saying that…
- Good night… - interrupted Vaeros turning her backs on Aqua and walking to the palace so she could get a good night of sleep, leaving Aqua talking to herself.
- Vaeros!!
She rushed to her sister and grabs her arm, pulling her so they would look at each other’s eyes. Yet Vaeros looked at Aqua with a mix of tired and disdain look.
- Yes Aqua… the intruder was here…
She asked with the calmest tone ever, taking into account that she was starting to get somewhat grouchy from slumber.
- And you just simply left him go?!
Aqua was getting more and more outraged with her sister.
- He hasn’t stolen anything… and he hasn’t done any damage at all… - Vaeros was getting on the nerves with Aqua already.
- BUT!!
- Aqua… that’s enough!... it’s over already… good night. – she said in a sudden interruption.
Then Vaeros finally managed to leave to her room, letting something fell off of her hand. She was too slumber to notice if she was already in her bed or not, what even to know if she just dropped something. Aqua, noticing that thing that fell down, rushed to it, and grabbed it. It was the letter. At first she didn’t want to invade Vaeros matters, but she couldn’t help it, she was too worried, and it could be something to threaten her sister. So she opened the letter, and read it over, twice to make sure she wasn’t dreaming.
Aqua happily smiled, keeping the letter safe, and got into her room jumping as a kid.
