Chapter one: hospital
“Huh?” slowly opening my eyes I stared into the bright green eyes of a girl
“You awake?” She asked
I ignored her, slowly I tried to sit up, but as I did it felt like a hundred swords shot through my stomach. Gasping from the pain I lay back down on my cold bed. Looking up into the ceiling I asked
“Where am I?”
I could feel the girl’s glare on me as I continued quiet bluntly
“I mean …. What happened and who are you?
The girl sighed a deep sigh, speaking in a half annoyed half sarcastic voice
“So you really have forgotten?”
Leaning up a bit I could see her face , she wasn’t looking at me but out of the window. I lowed myself down again as I replied
“Forget what?”
This time she didn’t answer straight away but continued to stare out of the window. Sighing impatiently I turned away from her. There was silence for a few minutes but it felt like hours.
“So...”
“Hospital”
I turned around and stared at her
“What?”
She glared at me then said
“You’re in the hospital”
Hospital, why I am in a hospital, stilling looking at her I replied in a soft whisper.
“Hospital,…huh?”
She didn’t answer; confused I turn myself so I was facing the ceiling. So I’m at a hospital and I can’t remember anything, great just great. Turning my head slightly, I noticed the girl still wasn’t looking at me. She was still staring out the window, what was so interesting out there, that she wouldn’t talk to me?
“what’s so interesting out there?” I questioned her.
She turned in her chair to face me, her face was completely emotionless, I couldn’t read it. She didn’t respond but just staring at me, embarrassed I looked away. What’s with this girl , why is staring at me like that?” stilling looking away I asked
“Are you going to answer my question?”
Again I felt her glare on me but ignored it and continued
“So, I am in a hospital? So…… who are you, what happened to me?”
I turned me head slowly to look at her, she was looking outside again. “The nerve of her!” I opened my mouth to yell but she cut me off.
“I can answer one question, my name is Jana crystal”, “and you seem to have forgotten that I am your friend” sighing deeply she looked at me almost sympathetically. “Sorry, I wish I could tell you more, but the higher uppers would get really mad at me” She continued to look at me for a second, then she quickly turned away. But not before I caught a glimpse of her face, it looked close to tears. I watched her back and quietly muttered “is that really all you can tell me?” this time instead of turning, she continued to stare outside the window as she replied in a calm voice “for now.”
She sat quietly for 5 more minutes until I heard her breathed a deep and long sign. And slowly jumping up she quietly left the room. As she did I could have sworn I heard her whisper “please get better or HE will kill me.” The why she had said HE made me shiver I lay back on my bed still shivering. Slowly I felt my eyes droop and before I knew it I was in a deep long sleep.
I was in an old warehouse, all around me were broken windows and huge boxes. Most of the lights were Brocken or flickering. As I moved into the centre of the room I felt the freezing cold of the air all around me. I felt like I was being watched, I looked around and around in a circle. Until I heard deep breathing behind me and span around, I looked right into the face of a young man with short blond hair. He was smiling maliciously at me and slowly extended his left hand towards me. He sat on a crate as though he was waiting for me. All he wore was a loose black t-shirt and long loose jeans. I slowly extended mine to his and as I did I slowly looked into his eyes. One was green and he other red, as I stared at them and I did a huge pain shoot though my head. I could hear screaming and shouting, it was entering my head and bouncing inside. I yelled for it to stop, but it wouldn’t it got loader and loader.
I screamed and I suddenly woke up sweating in my bed, I whipped the sweat away from my eyes. And looked around, I was back in the hospital “thank God” I muttered to myself. I ran my hand though my brown hair and tried to remember what I had just seen. The screams the boy and those eyes all made me cold right to the bone. “What is wrong with me?” I said to myself continuing to run my hand though my hair. Throwing myself onto the cold hard bed I stared at my sweating hand continuing to think. “Damn” I muttered to myself, “can’t remember anything.”
I sighed as I slowly raised myself up and out of my bed. In my bare feet I slowly but surely made my way across the cold, hard floor, towards the window. I grabbed the rim of the ledge to steady myself and stared outside the ghostly window.
The sun was hidden behind mucky grey clouds, the whole sky looked dismal. There was no life outside the window and as I continued to look at the outside it continued to be dead. This world seemed to have no life expect from myself. That’s when it hit me, why was there no nurses coming to check on me. Isn’t that what normal hospitals had? There were no buildings in front of the hospital. Just grey rocks lay on the ground outside. I felt like the world outside was dead. And the other thing, there was no one outside. Which seemed strange for the outside of a hospital, I could only come up with one expiation. I wasn’t in the hospital!
“Then where the hell am I?” I tried to figure it out, but there were no clues. Then I remembered my dream in the warehouse. My only clue to where I must be, I slowly walked back to my bed watching every step I took. My feet buckled under my weight and I fell towards the cold floor. Just as about to hit the floor I managed to grab the side of my bed post. Whipping the sweat from my face I slowly pulled myself up and rested on the edge of my bed and sighed in frustration. “Ok, ok calm down Emily,” I told myself “there is a perfect explanation why I am here. And why I can’t remember anything” then in a sudden burst of frustration I yelled “NO THERE IS’NT”
“My, my Emily aren’t you cheerful.” Said a soft, sly voice from the doorway. I jumped and looked at my intruder. There were two of them; the one on the left was a young girl with long brownish hair that was held in a ponytail by a blue rubber band. She had shiny green eyes that looked like emeralds in the light. She looked to be around 14 and could have easily had a face of an angel. I saw she was wearing a tight white and blue sport top. With loose dark blue jeans, which stretched all the way to her feet so I could barely see them. As she looked around, I saw small sliver metal hoops in her ears. She looked at me and a small grin formed her eyes slowly gazed towards her side expectantly.
I followed her gaze and now looked at my other intruder. He was tall and seemed to have be strong, he looked older then the girl. I was guessing 15 or 16; his hair was black, short and messy. He was much taller then the girl as well, I probably would only go up to his shoulders. He wore a long black jacket. With silver little buttons that looked like skulls to me. Underneath he wore a crimson t-shirt with nothing on it and around his neck was what seemed to be a white wolf fang on a chain. But what really caught my eye was his face, it was almost perfect, no freckles, no spots no nothing expect from a large cut across his right cheek. I wondered where he had got it from “a fight maybe?” I thought to myself. As we met each others gaze he grinned a toothy grin, then I noticed his jeans, man were they ripped. Everywhere, small and large they covered most of the jeans. And the cuffs of them seemed like they would fall off at any second. And a single shining chain hung on the right of them.
He walked towards me and sat on the chair backwards looking into my gaze. I met his gaze and looked deep into his eyes. They were a lovely blue it reminded me of cool water. He met my gaze and smirked, I turned away to look at the girl still standing in the door way. As I stared at her, something flicked on in my brain “Jana?” I asked nearly shouting. She looked at me and I saw the discomfort leave her slightly as she nodded. Then she suddenly looked at the boy as though she expected she was in trouble.
The boy ignored her and continued to look at me; I met his gaze and asked with no emotion in my voice. “Care to tell me who you are?” he didn’t answer me straight away but continued to look at me. And then he did something that I would never expect, he laughed! I didn’t see what was so funny, this time I lost my calm self and snapped at him “what are you laughing at? Idiot!” He laughed even harder as I said this. I waited for him to stop growing impatient.
Slowly he made himself stop and looked into my angry gaze. “Emily, Emily you haven’t changed at all since we last met each other. Even if you have forgotten everything, you still have your lovely attitude.”
His mouth formed a smirk as he saw my face grow darker.
“Shut up” I quietly muttered under my breath.
“Oh and why should I do that Emily?” he asked still smirking
His smirk made me break; all at once I felt all my anger rise up.
“ ok Mr. smartass since you know so much about me , tell why I am here? What the hell happened to me and most importantly who are you? And how do you know so much about me?”
He didn’t look surprised like I had expected, no quite the opposite he looked amused. Getting up he sat on the bed next to me and tapped my forehead.
“All the answers are in there,” he signed “but I’ am starting to wonder if you will ever remember”
I slapped his finger away. “Then why don’t you tell me!”
“But, Emily that would take all the fun out of our little game.” He replied slyly
“What the HELL are you talking about?”
“You will understand all in good time”
“All in good time? I want to know now!” this guy was making really mad, I had to hold myself back from punching him in the face. He knew something about me and he wasn’t telling me! And I still had no idea who he was.
His face dropped at my words and changed to a more serious one.
“Emily, I am not going to tell you. No matter how much you whine and complain, it’s not going to change anything. Got that?”
“Whatever”
“Good,” he replied now smiling “now how about you focus on getting better instead of fighting me?”
I grunted and turned away, as I lay on my side I asked in a bored voice.
“Can you answer at least this question?”
“What?’
“Who are you and what’s your name?”
He stared at me, and then with a laugh replied. “I won’t tell you who I am for that will take all the fun out of our game,” I shot him a hateful look as he continued “but I will give you a clue to my name it begins with an E”
I rolled over to look at him, “what is with this guy? Why can’t he just give me a straight answer?”
“Come on Emily, guess!”
“Why didn’t you just tell me?”
He smiled “well you know me Emily I love puzzles and riddles.”
“No I don’t “I replied almost yelling “in case you forgot, I can’t remember anything”
“No,” he replied more seriously “I don’t think you forgot everything. No I think you are stopping yourself from remembering about me and the organization because it causes you pain.”
“What are you blabbing on about now “
He shrugged “maybe something, maybe nothing.”
This guy just got weirder and weirder every second.
“So what’s your guess?”
“Huh?”
“For my name, boy you really are forgetful”
I tighten my fist
“You are lucky that I can control my angry buddy.”
“Oooooo… I’ am shaking in my boots” he smiled sarcastically
“You such an idiot Eric” when the last word came out I clapped my hands over my mouth. But he had heard.
“See! You do remember.”
“No…I-it just slipped out, I didn’t know what I was saying.”
I breathed in and out slowly trying to make sense of it all and I asked calmly.
“So it’s Eric?”
“Yup”
“Stupid name” I gave him a scornful look, hoping to make him mad for being such a git. He didn’t get mad instead he laughed realizing what I was trying to do.
“Emily, I’m sorry to say, I don’t get as angry as you do so easily.”
He was teasing me again!” damn him” I thought to myself hanging my head low so I wouldn’t have to look at him.
“Hey Jana, come here” my head shot up, I had completely forgotten about Jana! She walked over to him without looking at me. “Yes?” He stood up and whispered something into her ear that I couldn’t hear. Slowly she grinned and slowly stepped away while saying “yes, I can do that” she left the room.
Complexed I looked at Eric, hoping for an explanation. But he didn’t meet my gaze and stared outside the window. I watched him ruffling his hair and sighing, anyone could tell something was on his mind. The way he was holding himself and the way he sighed
I continued to watch him but he didn’t turn around. I lay on my back and slowly closed my eyes, trying to sleep. I let the dream land take me and before I knew it I was back in the warehouse.
It was just as cold and dark as before, the same lights were still flicking. As I walked around a cold blast of air hit me and I fell forward. “Oww” I pushed myself of the ground and looked at the damage. A trickle of blood fell down my face “great” I muttered a lovely cut on my cheek and two grazed hands.
As I sat down I felt my body shiver, again I got the feel I was beginning watched. I tried to see someone from the darkness. There was no one around, I sighed I hit myself “stop freaking yourself out Emily!” in pain I slowly rose from the ground and dusted my hands. I looked around, there was three bright lights shining in front of me that I swore wasn’t there before. In the light was a dark figure as I walked closer it came into better view.
It was the boy from before, he sitting on a wooden crate waiting for me. I sat on the crate opposite of him waiting expectantly. He met my gaze with he’s two strange eyes and smirked. He said nothing as he got up but and me to follow him. I hesitantly got up and followed him, walking in his shadow.
We walked around the whole warehouse until we found a door. He opened it and went out, I rushed in behind him. Outside was pitch black expecting for the boy, he seemed to glow in the dark? We walked for what felt like hours, still he said nothing. Then he suddenly stopped and I walked right into him. “Why did you stop?” he didn’t answer but I swore I could see a smirk crawl across his face. He motioned me to a door in the wall, I steadily reached out my hand and grasped the door handle and turned it. As I opened it I heard a voice in the back of my head yelling my name. I wanted it to stop, it rattled inside my head. I fell on my knees clutching my head yelling for it to stop.
Slowly the warehouse around me disappeared and I was in a cold, white room. I was back in reality; Eric was right next to me. So he was the one who had pulled me out of my dream, I sighed. “I wonder what was behind that door” I could feel Eric’s eyes on me but ignored it and continued talking to myself. “And who was that boy in the warehouse?” at the word warehouse Eric jumped, I looked at him. Serious, cold dark eyes stared back.
“Emily why in your sleep were you saying “why did you stop?” His voice was deeper and dark then his usually cheery voice. “Who were you talking to and what were you saying about a warehouse.” I met his death stare with my own “And WHY should I tell YOU?”
His left fist clenched at his side, I could tell he was holding himself back from hitting me. “Because,” he said in clenched teeth “it could mean the matter for you between life and death.”
“Life and death,” I lay on my back hands behind my head as I stared seamlessly at the ceiling. “I have always thought about dying once” I looked back at him smirking at his expression of complete rage.
“Oooooooo…..has little Emily finally got the better of little Eric!” I couldn’t hold back my wide grin. I could see him, trying to calm down but I wouldn’t let him. “Ahh…..what did you say earlier….hmmm…..oh yes now I remember!” “Emily , I’m sorry to say I don’t get as angry as you do so easily!” I did this all in my stupidest voice I could do; after I was done I burst out laughing! In between breaths I stammered “now….who’s the angry one…..hmmmm…..Eric??” whipping tears from my eyes I looked at him, his fists were so tight I could see the nerves.
After a few deep breaths he looked up and smiled, I nearly fell of the bed from the smile. Right now if death had a name it would definitely be Eric! “Well…I’m so sorry that I care if you die Emily” he said sarcastically. My smirked dropped “Well I don’t care what you think, in my mind you are just a stranger who I have just met.” I was now mad as hell. He gave me a strange look “a stranger we have known each other for 15 years, ever since we were born.” “Oh” I replied eyebrow raised “I think you have forgotten Eric I don’t remember all that!!...hmmmm….and whose fault is that….let me think…oh I know …it’s YOURS! You won’t tell me anything! I don’t know who I am, I still don’t know who you are and damn it all! I still have not clue where I am. Care to explain you idiot?”
He raised his head and shot me a dirty look. “Were you not listening before Emily?” he asked darkly. I shot him a death look back before replying “let me think, you were ramberling on about how you loved riddles. Hmmm….oh now I remember!! You said Emily; I am not going to tell you. No matter how much you whine and complain, it’s not going to change anything.” I grinned evilly up at him “am I right?”
He didn’t stop staring at me and a small grin came across his face. But it disappeared as fast as it appeared “sure” he answered my question in a bored voice blowing the hair out of his eyes. My grin drop as he replied “why don’ you just leave?” I asked sourly. He didn’t look up but continued to stare at his hair as he replied“can’t do that.” and why the hell not?" I yelled
He looked up at me with his bored expression then smirked slyly as he said" because, I have to do my job"
