A Day In the Sun
a monologue

三島 和希
Kazuki Mishima

It was actually a good day, you know, until... until I knew. The morning was... Well, it was crazy, like I said, but it was... Things were looking good. I just needed my coffee a little more than usual, you know? And when I got to work, people were smiling. They're always smiling when I get there, and they say "Oh, what whould we do without you?" and I wake myself up with more coffee and say "Glad to help," but really the only thing keeping me alive is the caffeine; it's like I'm drowning in coffee.

There's this one girl there - Barbara - and there was a rumor that she had just had an abortion, and that made me a little angry. Girls say things sometimes, like "It's my body," and I just want to tell them that it's not their body. They're really... They're really putting... They're really putting a kid in the trash...

The... The sun... Well, you know the sun was... really bright all day. I was sitting next to a window... and I was thinking that I must be in heaven, because we hadn't had a sunny day in a while. I spent a day in the sun. So did my son. When I... when I found out that my son was still in the car outside... somehow I knew not to hope for anything. I knew he was dead. God damn it! My baby's dead.
