I was a very odd man of my kind. Not many could stand to be around powerful humans. Not many allowed the thought of them being stronger then us, stronger then our blood to exist in our minds, i knew better though. I had become as close to the word friends with her as possible before I found out. She kept herself hidden, as was dictated by there doctrines. As dictated by everyone’s doctrines. If humans ever learned about us, the Purifiers would also be able to come out into the open. We didn’t want be hunted as we were in the long past.
“Dana, how kind of you to grace us with your presence…” I said with a smile, we were a lot closer then many of my kind new, but with several of them in the room with us, I didn’t think letting that on would be ideal.
She was looking around the room. We could all see her shiver slightly as we all stood or sat watching her. She had the only heartbeat in the room. She had the only living, pulsing blood in the room. A few of us took note and I could almost feel the hunger in them wanting to get out. She was under my protection, as I had invited her to this gathering. Things had to be discussed. We were envoys for our own Masters, and had to represent them.
I slowly stood, using the speed I had mastered over the ages to move silently and quickly to the Television that sat in the room. I turned it on and pressed power on the dvd player. I knew at least half the room had missed my movements, including my little Dana. The electronic devices turned on in a hum.
I could feel there eyes turn towards me, before turning to the screen to watch what we were all here to discuss and report on. We were trusted to speak for our Masters, if any of us failed I doubt we would have to worry about these matters.
Dana was startled for a moment, her hand reaching for the pouch she kept in her pocked at all times. I knew she was jumpy right now, and I probably should have warned her before doing that, but I really couldn’t help myself. I quickly moved to the back of her, placing my hands on her wrist to help settle her and stop her from pulling any of that special powder out.
“Calm down my dear, it’s only the Television, it’s why we asked you to come remember?” I whispered in her ear after a moment, I could feel her physical relax at my touch. Something I normally loved, after all my hands were as cold as death most of the time, but right now we had business.
“Ladies and Gentlemen. This film was procured at great expense by the council itself. The people in it our unknown as of yet. Many humans have watched this in places of power and from what I understand the Pope is soon going to go public with it.” I explain to the group before pressing play.
The screen started out black with the numbers in the corners as four different screens came up in the image. It was different views of the interior of the same building, it had a multitude of people, at least 50 people, one of them our eyes easily locked onto had a sword on his back. He was looking up at the time display for the flights. Many people didn’t walk around with sword hanging out in the open now days as they did in the past. The images wasn’t perfect but you could see what looked like a white and silver handle attached to the sheath on his back. The sheath had odd decremented designs, almost looking Christian in origin. One of the cameras showed another man running towards him, his skin showed a darker color, most likely an Egyptian decent with his head shaved, and a few tattoos along his neck. His speed was almost unnoticeable on the cameras. The only reason why we caught it was cause I had this part slowed down, it was only a few frames before he reached the man with the sheath on his back.
The first man with a sword on his back turned at the last moment as his assailant did an over head flip, trying to drag the sword out of the sheath in one smooth motion. With him noticing he dropped lower so his assailant missed his grab. I paused it there for the moment.
“Gentlemen, as far as we can tell, these two are our kind. The assailant is a strong fighter, but doesn’t move with the grace of the wolves from what I’ve been told. As you may also notice the time stamps show that it is less than an hour before the average dawn time.” I explain to them. One of them steps forward to get a closer look. The others finally seeing someone else lose there supposed cool pose follow suit, and gather around to look at the screen, all of them still out of arm reach of my Dana.
I push play again. The assailant pulls a sword from underneath the long jacket he wore; the blade was shorter and slightly curved. We all watched in fascination as black scale like armor broke down from his shoulders. Plates of black armor covered him fully, until a black serpent skill mask covered his face. The last thing to appear after the armor was two large bat like wings. They extended from his back, and there was no doubt that they could lift him if he so choose. A tail with two spikes at the end whipped out behind him as he took a stance with his sword. I paused it again.
“To those of you that do not know, his appearance closely resembles that of what we know of demons, now we have no clue how he did this, as it is no power of any of the bloods.” I looked between them, of course nothing showed, they had already aged beyond basic human impulses to show expressions, or even breath. I did notice my Dana starting to say something so I waited for her.
“His sword, it could be an artifact. Many Mages spend lifetimes to create artifacts of great power so they would be remembered. There no reason a vampire couldn’t use one.” She said quietly, he voice was barely above a whisper, but with her being the only other sound in the room, her beating heart, her blood pulsing, it was still loud enough.
All of them looked at her as she said what we are. I wasn’t sure what was going through there minds, and I probably didn’t want to know, but her information was valuable.
“That sound like a very plausible idea.” I nodded my head to her, before pushing play again. The motion was still slowed, I had watched it at normal speed already and this entire clip was less then 8 seconds long. The man that had ducked, reached for the swords and pulled it from his back. As it was readied in his hands his clothes fell away. His body became like a work of art, drawn by the greatest of painters. Four wings unfolded from his back, flaring out as his opponents had a moment earlier. The sword itself lit up as fire dance along its blade. They both stood ready staring at each other. I paused the film for a third time.
“If that is true, then the assailant was after the artifact, this other sword that our first gentlemen was carrying. Now most humans will not know that these two were originally vampires. The Pope is going to be showing this off with a Demon and an Angel doing battle in the middle of an air port with dozens of eye witness.” I stated calmly, many of the others turned towards my finally. One of them still was looking at the four still images on the screen.
“Solomon, please finish the clip” he spoke quietly, his voice had lost any accent he might have had when he was alive. I turned back to the screen as everyone else did as well. I pressed play. This was the main reason the meeting had been called. The demon form attacked relentlessly at the angel, and we could easily see the demons had swords training, the angel didn’t seem to. He was barely able to parry the first few strikes before the demon swipe strait through the weak block and into the head of the angel. He pulled back on the blade, taking a large portion of the head with him before jumping on the form before it fell. The demon started to drink in the blood. A cloud of darkness appeared around him, the video fell back into real time. After about 30 seconds the darkness vanished, the assailant was sitting back on his knees, blood dripping down from his mouth as he had one sword in each hand.
A lithe, and able beauty moved into view with a large bulky muscle guy with long brown hair. The new entrances each grabbed one of his arms and helped him up. It didn’t take long for them to clear a path through the crowd, the fallen angel was only dust on the floor. The clip finally ended.
I allowed a few moments for them to gather there thoughts, before I continued. “It currently doesn’t matter how they did it, it is good to know though. The Pope will be revealing that Judgment Day is coming soon and will be making the Purifiers public. He will be looking openly for those that can use the divine light they apparently have to massively wipe into all of us.” I looked over at Dana at the last comment, she wasn’t a spokesperson for anyone, but I wanted to let her know what was going on. I had very little love for most mages, but I still had a soft spot for her. She gave me weak smile of encouragement, I looked amongst the group now, seeing if any of them wanted to give a remark that might help.
A larger bloke spoke up. He eyes seemed animalistic, and his mouth full of fangs and shaggy unkept hair didn’t help matters. “This is those Sorcerers faults! They had created the items, and now because of it we are all going to the gutters!” his voice escalated as he spoke, it was a throaty German accent. He hadn’t been dead so long that he should actually be here. His hand actually was pointing at Dana. My eyes slowly moved from his face down his arm to her. She looked terrified, and we could all hear her heart beat start to quicken.
She took slow steps back from us, moving toward the door. She was smart enough not to go for her powder yet. I moved towards this fool. Using my speed to almost appear in front of him. I was in for a bit of surprise as I stopped his hand had a finger pointing into my chest, right above the heart.
“Solomon, are you going to protect this little thing? It seems to me it was her kind that caused the problem, if anything we make a deal were we hand them all the little sorcerers and be done with them.” He said quieting his voice low, he tried to put the edge to it, tried to deliver the threat. He was not as strong as me, and was in my domain. He was not to be giving threats. He had to be a bestial, they had a name to there blood, but nobody cared to remember it. They lived like animals out amongst the woods, and still open landscape of the world. There were physical tough, and my little speed trick was probably easily seen.
“Your name.” I asked quietly. I could feel all the eyes in the room staring at us. Most of them slowly moved into a circle. It was such a small movement on there part I doubted Dana even noticed yet.
His grin came to his face quick. It looked like a jagged scar ripped across what was supposed to be his mouth. The mass amounts of fangs inside only added to the effect. “I am the beast of Lord Tovanir.” Like many of us, our own name didn’t matter, it was our Masters name that held sway.
“I see you will be challenging over this morsel in his name then?” I asked him. If he challenged and won he would have to take her all the way back to his Master before he could do anything with her. Time consuming, but he just might do it if he thought it would irritate me. He took a step closer, if he wasn’t nearly half a foot taller then me at his six foot something we would almost be kissing.
“I’ll challenge something as weak as you, though I will gain no honor from it.” His maw made a bigger grin as if that was possible. One of the other appeared behind my lady, quickly taking her hand and holding it behind her. This is not what I had planned for the evening.
“I’m sorry Dana, I’ll deal with my guest’s rudeness in a moment…”
