The Pledge I made to my Mommy

“But mom please I’m sorry, where will I go?” “Marie your not sorry, otherwise you wouldn’t have gone out with that boy, disobeyed me, and gotten yourself into this mess! Also don’t call me your mom because I am not your mother nor are you my daughter! My daughter wouldn’t have ever disobeyed me and gone out with this boy to turn into this…this…this whore!” “Now gather up whatever belongings you have and I want you out of this house by the time I come home!”

Tossing and tuning she began to hear screaming and crying. Trying to understand what her mother was saying but could barely make out this rest of it. She slowly began to come to a conscious wake and for a moment didn’t recognize anything around her or where she was. That was until she laid her eyes upon this little girl curled up in a little ball crying with fear written all across her face. Just then she knew who that little girl was and also that the person screaming was her. A nightmare, such a horrible nightmare yet it was all true. “Ma…ma...mma…mommy, wa…wwa…wwwa...wa...why were yu…yu…you screaming?” The little questioned very shaken between her sobs and sniffles. “Sssh…come here sweetie.” Uncertain if it was ok to come closer to her mom she moved just barely enough to make the gap between a little smaller “Aww…sweetie it’s ok come here…Ellie May, mommy just had a bad dream that’s all. I’m fine…see nothings wrong and I’m very sorry if I scared you I didn’t mean to” Wondering how she could get Ellie’s mind off of seeing her mom screaming in her sleep she then realized that it was almost 10:00 and Ellie probably was getting hungry.

“My big girl, how about we go downstairs and make some pancakes!” Marie enthusiastically stated while running her fingers through her daughters hair to try and at least calm her down a bit. Out of no where Ellie sprang up from her mom’s bed “Yea! Chocolate and blueberry pancakes mommy!” Giggling to herself she looked at her quizzically. “Chocolate and blueberries, Are you sure? How about just chocolate or just blueberry pancakes?” “NO! Loli likes blueberries and chocolate!” Ellie ran out of them room with her favorite doll in toe “Oh, ok well we wouldn’t want to upset Loli would we” Remembering back to when she first got that doll, Marie was about a year or so younger then Ellie. It was her in her basket from the Easter bunny. She never really gave the doll a name unless of course you counted call it dollie a name. Walking down the stairs to the kitchen she watched Ellie skip around the house with Loli, telling Loli everything they were going to do today. In the kitchen, her and Ellie began to get all the ingredients that were going to be needed to make pancakes. Ellie ran to the refrigerator opened the door and got the milk and eggs. She was trying to explain to Loli how to help her carry the milk, and when she just thought the two of them had it, Ellie closed the door and begin to sort of skip back to the island countertop. “Ellie be careful please, would you walk over here instead of…” In about mid skip she lost her balanced and went flying along with the eggs, milk, and Loli. One big loud thumb and there sat Ellie on the tiled floor along with the eggs all broken everywhere, most of them had landed somewhere around Ellie or on her. The milk that busted open and of course Loli whom had which not a drop of eggs or milk on her. Looking up at Marie, Ellie began to giggle. “Ellie, now how can Loli have her chocolate and blueberry pancakes?” Marie sighed went, went over picked up Ellie, and sat her on the counter. Looking back at the mess she couldn’t help but start to laugh a bit as well.

“My big girl, now look at that mess. How about we clean it up and instead just go out for some pancakes. Then after breakfast we can go to the park!” Marie looked at her daughter, whom looked so much like her dad and her own mother. “But mommy, I was suppose to go and play with Lexi today. Lexi, Loli, and I were going to play nurse and soldiers” Ellie whined, it was so frustrating to her how could her mom forget that. She never forgot hardly anything but yet she forgot that Ellie was suppose to go over to Lexi’s. Still in a daze, Marie began to remember how just seven years ago her life was full of laughter with her friends. She was the captain of her high school’s cheerleading squad, had a nerdish star football player boyfriend and her parents were very proud of her. “Mom, mommy! Hello mommy are you ok?” “Huh, wha, oh yea I’m fine, how about we go get Lexi on the way, she can have pancakes with us and then I can drop you guys off at the school yard” Marie quickly said still off in her daze. “Ellie May Autumn Hall, will you please make mommy a very big promise?” “Of course mommy, I love you!” Ellie scrunched up her little tiny seven year old nose, kissed Marie on the forehead, and gave her a big hug. “Well when I was a little older then you, in high school where I met your daddy, well my mom scared me. I felt as if I couldn’t tell her anything. Now I don’t want you to ever feel like that. Ellie May Autumn Hall I want you to promise me that no matter how mad you think mommy will get, you will always tell me anything. I’m always here for you” Marie now a little teary eyed. “Mommy don’t be said, you’re my mommy why wouldn’t I tell you anything! I love you a lot. So does your mommy, she loves you so very much! I promise to tell you everything! Your always here for me and I’m your little princess!” Ellie said pushing her moms cheeks together like a fish. Ellie began to giggle a little bit and then let Marie’s face return to normal.

“Ellie, your just like your dad, now get dressed so we can go have pancakes, and finally you, Lexi, and Loli can play Nurse and Soldiers” Climbing over to the side of the countertop, she slid off the side and began to run towards her room. Then she turn around “Mommy why don’t we ever go see nana? Daddy always talks about her but he never takes me to see nana. Why?”……
