Sara’s door opened. She slowly walked in and locked the door behind her. Everything was aching and she couldn’t make it stop.
The day was emotionally draining. Her best friend since childhood recently came back from living in Australia for a year; only it wasn’t her friend anymore. It was like they sent the wrong Scott back. It pained her to think about it, she was so ready to tell him how she felt. Instead of the loving and caring Scott she knew and loved she got the barely recognizable alcoholic and drug addict.
Tears started to well up in her eyes.
She took off her coat and shoes and went into the kitchen to make tea. She tossed her keys onto the counter and turned on the kettle. She went into her living room and plopped herself onto the couch.
Despite her best efforts the tears continued to fall and slowly dripped onto her shirt. She laid down on the couch and cried her self to sleep.
Someone banging on the door woke her. She looked up at the clock and saw that it was 12:30am.
Who would be knocking at this hour? She thought as she got up. The banging continued and a yell erupted from the other side.
“Sara!”
Sara’s tired eyes widened. She knew exactly whose voice it was. She unlocked the door and opened it. There stood Scott, soaking wet to the bone, his dark hair sticking to his skin and his lovely dark eyes dilated and cloudy. His breath smelled of whiskey and Sara didn’t like it.
“What is it that you want Scott?” she said with an annoyed voice, trying to swallow the huge lump that was in her throat.
“I…” his rough voice was quiet. He looked down to where he was clutching his hand. Blood was trickling down his side.
“Oh my god Scott! What happened?!”
He lost his strength and collapsed onto her. She gently laid him down on the floor and quickly got her cell phone. With one hand she kept pressure on his wound and the other was dialing the phone.
A dull voice answered on the other end, angering Sara beyond belief.
“Someone hurt my friend and now he won’t stop bleeding.” She said, the lump in her throat hurting like hell. She told them where she lived and they told her to keep pressure and that they were sending an ambulance.
She tossed the phone and desperately tried to keep him awake.
“Don’t die Scott.” She whispered, tears pouring down her face. His eyes opened and looked at her.
“I’m sorry Sara…” he quietly said. With those words she knew it was her Scott. The one she would go to the ends of the earth to be with. Making sure she kept pressure, she leaned in and kissed him, making sure she put all of her feelings in that kiss. He tried to say something but passed out cold.
“I still need you Scott, you can’t die now.”
The thunder drowned out her sobs. Sara sat there, waiting for the ambulance to arrive, hoping that this wasn’t the last time she would ever be with the only person she ever loved.
