The words stabbed Myrna's heart like thousands of needles. Those words she had heard only seconds before. They could not be true. They had obviously mistaken her for someone else, and that person also had a loved one by the same name. But, no matter how she tried, the words kept popping in her head. Over and over like a ride she just could not get off. Maybe it was a trick. Someone would yell 'April Fools!' soon enough, she just knew it. But, then again, she also knew it could not happen. It was May. May thirtieth. So, the words were not a joke, and they would not go away. As she sank to the floor, crying, the nurse sank down as well and patted her on the back. Myrna hardly noticed. All she could see was the picture of him in her head. And there was only one thing she heard in the crowded, bustling hospital that day.
'I'm sorry, Myrna. But, Johhny is dead.'
