Chapter 1: The Escape
As the dark storm clouds swelled with unreleased rain, a physically shaken girl panted as she ran through the dark woods. She had cuts and bruises all over her pale body and her black T-shirt was ripped at the torso. Her dark blue jeans had large slits decorating them, but she paid them no mind as she continued to run. A dark bellowing voice called after her. He said he wanted her, needed her. Weaving left and right, she scrambled in every direction only hoping to get away from the voice. The world around her was a blur. She ran faster than she had every before and took no breaks for if she even took a little one, he might find her.
The strong breeze made her squint her eyes, but she continued on, not daring to look back. Her legs ached and her body cried out for a break, but she refused. A low rumble from the sky sounded and the rain began to fall. It started slowly at first, and then pounded furiously a few minutes later. Her messy brown hair was plastered to her face. Her eyelashes had droplets of water on them which made her look like a beautiful bewitching water nymph. But her eyes, her emerald green eyes expressed fear and mistrust. Her life before she ran away proved that no one could be trusted. Not even your own blood.
The lighting flashed and the thunder crackled and she continued to run but soon, the girl was convinced she was far enough away. She slowed to a halt and she just stood there, in the rain, and shut her eyes. How long had she been wishing to get away from this kind of life? Tears began to form behind her lids and she cried with the rain drops mixing in. Her legs crumbled to the ground and she sobbed endlessly while the bashes of thunder hid her bawling. Scared, frightened, she was alone in the woods with no one around her. She stayed there, crying, for almost an hour, but the night was getting colder and if she stayed in one place, she realized, she might get sick with no medicines whatsoever. Breathing deeply, she collected herself and forced herself to move on to find shelter. And it was as if it was a miracle, she discovered a cave.
It wasn’t a very big cave, only about six feet in length and in height, but at the height of 5 foot, it was perfect. She bent her head and her back as she made her way to the back of the cave.
The cave was damp and musty but it was perfect to stay in for the night. She crouched till she reached the back of the cave. Curling up in a corner, she made herself comfortable for the night. The blacken sky rumbled and moaned throughout the whole night and lulled her into the first peaceful sleep she had had in a long time.
