What do you see?
What do you see when you look at this place?
Just a field with grass and trees and animals
What do you see when you walk through this forest?
Just twigs and trees and old bits of litter
What do you see when you look at this lake?
Just some water, some insects and a couple of fish
What do you see when you look at this ditch?
Just a load of mud at the bottom with a few broken twigs
Well when I see this place I don’t just see a field
I don’t just see the trees, the twigs and the sticks
I don’t just see a lake filled with water
I don’t only see what is here in the present
I see what it used to be; and old army airfield
I see the trees that would hide all the planes
I see the where the bomb struck which is now filled with water
I see the remains of the plane that crash landed, killing all on board
I see the field that was once full of planes and tanks and ammunition
I see the concrete where the weapons were stored
I see the lights on the runway now used for cars as a road
I don’t just see the present; I see into the past
