A/N: A poem inspired by and written for my friend.
Path of Thorns
It was the day she met you when her life blossomed
She was standing at the beginning of the winding path
which to her looked inviting and bathed in sunlight
But she didn’t realize that the road was full of thorns
Hidden by her own eyes
The eyes that longed to be with someone and realize their own worth
Because of your words, wrapping around her frail body
She realized her true feelings
In a heartbeat, she knew that she loved you
And even though she could not see your pale face
She wanted to remain by your side
For as long as time would allow
You were more than a friend
More than a shoulder to lean on
She yearned to tell you what she felt
But could not find the courage
Instead retreating to her lonely burrow
Too shy to make her heart known
You called her a gem, a rare discovery
But were your words true?
You chased her endlessly through the woods
Yet she kept running faster and faster
You grew tired by the little game
And eventually chose another
Another who was just like her
She gazed back at your retreating silhouette
Obscured by the branches and the leaves
She’d always done so even when you never saw
Now she realized the ebony thorns growing on the path she’d been treading
And decided to chase after you
But you weren’t looking back
