Lone rose, alone in the patch of

Overgrown and unkempt grass

And dandelions

Painfully, beautifully obvious

Perhaps a stray seed found its way

To the tiny concrete island

Forgotten by the landscapers

And made a home there

Or perhaps some well-meaning teenage boy

Plucked up your fellows for a bouquet

To win the heart of a girl

Leaving you by yourself

Lone rose, your solitary spring is just beginning

Bringing beauty to the ragged grass

Alone, your petals are bittersweet

Sparkling with the morning dew
