Sandcastle

My faith was a sandcastle,
Standing proud on the beach,
My trust was my moat,
Defending from doubt.

And the sand gathered and built,
As my love bloomed and grew,
I believed in eternity,
I knew you to be true.

But the waves, they came crashing,
And turned hope to dust,
Washing over my sandcastle,
As belief was crushed.

And the sand drowned and crumbled,
As my trust faded fast,
How could God be cruel?
Could nothing last?

So now I sit on the beach,
Alone and confused,
With no one to turn to
And with no will to pray,

The night's nearly over,
The sun welcomes the day,
And with a flicker of hope,
I pick up my spade.
