Again, for my Creative Writing class...about mysterious clocks with the power to travel through dimensions. A somewhat vague, narrative poem came in my mind.
--
Tick, Tock
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
Can you hear the clock?
It silently calls the two children
Beguiling them to stop
It whispers in their ear
Telling them to halt
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
Time seems to stand still
As the children drops their toys
And walk towards the attic
Where the clock patiently waits
Whispering sweet promises as they go
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
They stole a glance between each other
Suddenly out of their trance-like reverie
Wondering if their mother would get mad
For intruding in the forbidden attic
But the clock’s ticking drowns their worries
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
The boy opens the mahogany door
Nothing else is important, nothing more
Than the clock’s soft, hypnotic calling
The girl’s soft hands open the box
And there in front of their eyes the clock calls
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
When the children touch the clock in unison
A blinding flash of light
Accompanied by a strong gust of wind
Sends their consciousness sleeping
And bring them to different dimensions
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
Kaleidoscopes of the most unusual, vivid colors pass by
Sending Time slipping off their small hands
Blurred images of Cleopatra,
Shakespeare and Da Vinci flies past
In a flashback-like motion
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
More famous historical figures fly by
Even the great Queen Elizabeth smiles
A faint bell toll rings in their ears
Telling them the journey will now stop
Confused, baffled, amazed they are
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
Can you hear the clock?
Let them enter into a world
Where power-hungry royals rule all
Where political intrigues and scandals
Govern their lives filled with drama
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
They find themselves garbed
With rubies and gems and emeralds
And velvets and satins and silks
And in amazement, they smile
As an elegant carriage gallops towards them
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
They are now to go to their palace
Which they hope would be full
Of sweets and chocolates
Of dolls and blocks
And of a silly Jack-in-a-box
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
Guess they were wrong
Instead the palace was dull, dank and bleak
There were no sweets, only a smelly moat
No chocolates, dolls and blocks and a Jack-in-box
For instead they had come to their prison
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
Anxiety growing within them
Sweat beads forming in their forehead
They suppress a terrified gasp
As their carriage sets them down
And a knife-wielding woman greets them
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
Can you hear the clock?
It’s time for the children’s life
To end in the merciless, bloodstained hands
Of the pale-faced woman
With her cruel ebony eyes and twisted smile
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
The clock is now ticking
Calling them to go back
Too bad they won’t move a muscle
Too bad they are paralyzed
By this evil-looking woman
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
Can you hear the clock?
It’s time for them to travel
To another unlikely dimension
Instead the woman introduces them
To her fellow, a sharp steel of silver
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
The boy gets grabbed
Before the girl lets out a shriek
His crimson blood splatters on her robes
The manic-filled eyes of the woman
Is now dangerously set on her
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
Can you hear the clock?
It silently calls the girl
Beguiling her to come
It whispers in her ear
Telling her to come
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
Kaleidoscopes of the most unusual, vivid colors pass by
Sending Time slipping off her small hands
Blurred images of Cleopatra,
Shakespeare and Da Vinci flies past
In a flashback-like motion
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
Now the Time has come to a halt
The children have changed the course of history
There were no answers as to whether the girl lived
Only the clock holds the unknown truth,
Waiting patiently for the next children to come.
Tick,tock
