Written upon High School Graduation

The Graduate

The constant state of failure is

all you fear.

A silly thing, seeing as it's constant.

You've never had it right.

So why do you worry that

you're going to get it wrong?

Maybe you've dreamed of a future

beyond these doors.

Maybe you're an optimist, and you just

didn't know it.

But why worry?

There's nothing you can do.

Nothing you can do but

put your foot forward and

pray that it's not a flood

out there in the darkness,

going to sweep you off your feet

and down, on to drown you and

carry your lifeless form out to sea.

But who knows?

Maybe it will be pleasant.

Just floating, water filling your ears,

and your eyes open.

You look ahead and see

the flickering light of the sun's rays,

shining through the churning liquid

which tosses and breaks,

comforts and holds you till your last breath.
