I read about trapdoor spiders earlier, very interesting arachnids I just had to make a one-shot out of.

Though I made them much more scary, I thought it would be interesting.

Trapdoor

I sighed at the beauty of the beach, my parents always told me it's not a good idea to go there at night, but it's just so beautiful. High Tide has long passed and most of the beach now consists of sand. That's pretty abnormal in most areas, but here it's a given. Just add that to the odd things about this beach, the large holes that lined the ground where the water had been were just a few. Around here, you get used to it, in fact, if you ask me it's kind of cool. It's best to just walk around them though, they get pretty deep, I remmember a kid went missing around here last year in them. Despite it getting late I sigh, looking at my watch, I notice it's midnight, I contemplate walking back but raise an eyebrow. "I'm not that far out." I mutter to myself, looking towards our vacation home which was on top of a hill "Mom won't be angry."

I'm a big boy after all, I'm already 8, and who's out this late other then me anyway? As I get deeper in I feel cold, looking back, I've gone far enough, any further and I won't find my way home. I walk slowly, I look around, this doesn't look like the way I came, I shiver more, and continue to look around, walking faster. I swear I hear something strage, but this only makes me quicken the pace. "Hello?" I call out, looking around "Is somebody there, I think I'm lost."

And then, as I take another step forward, the bottom of the ground gives way, I feel something wrap around my leg, and drag me down. Screaming, I cry, it let's me go and I go tumbling downwards through this netting. As I slide into the burrow, I hit the ground, my head hurts, really bad too. I feel weak too, I don't think it's poison, I can move and I'm not dead. But when I try to get up, I realize I can't, I look around, and see this silky stuff, I'm stuck to it, and the thing that got me is nowhere to be found. I struggle and finally manage to get up, running along the webbing, I look for a way out, some way out. I hear clicking, and tremble, I know whatever had me is not happy. I look around, moving quickly, I look around, but slowly I realize the noise is getting louder.

Turning my head all I see is 8 eyes staring at me, it shoves me down onto the silk like floor, looking up, I realize I'm right under the tube. This time it secures me, spinnig the webbing around my ankles and wrists. I cry as it bits off my t-shirt and shorts, it leaves me in my underwear and backs up. It's only then that I realize the half of the door I had fallen into is still open, eyes widening I watch as the tide starts to come in. The saltwater shoots onto me like there's no tommorow with my mouth open, it pours into it, I can't close it because of how powerful the water is the rest pours onto me, hard, I can't breath. I watch as my body becomes wrinkly like it does when you're in the water too long. And then it's over, it closes the trapdoor, sealing it with more silk-like web. It jumps onto me, and I can feel myself drowning.

Bending down it tears a chunk of skin off my arm, chewing into me, eating me alive. Before long, the water kicks in, and I drown, the darkness overcoming me, the last thing I feel is it tearing open my stomache. I guess I know the reason for those holes now, this is why you don't go out at night. This is what mom warned me about. If you don't you may end up eaten alive.
