Chapter 6

“Why have I not seen you in any of the balls” Damien inquires seriously.

“I decided I am in no position to be there” I told him.

Damien had asked for permission from Madam Christie to take me for a walk around Madam’s garden outside. We walked quietly until we saw a small creek. I was ready to cross it when he pulled my hand.

“I had hoped for you to be there? As much as I dreaded you to be there?” he said as his eyes searches mine. I find as knot was around my body. Making it hard for me to breath.

“I don’t understand?” I quickly let go of his hand.

“Timoty was besotted he was devastated when you left that night at the ball” he paused. “He was hoping for you at every ball as I was hoping you wouldn’t appear as much as I wanted to see you” he said, his face was emotionless.

“I am not your property you know I am not avoiding him because of you” I said angrily.

“Then why didn’t you come?” he said a tone higher then before.

“It is my understanding you love timothy”

He moved a bit closer “and?”

“It is my understanding I don’t want to be the cause of a good brotherly affection tragedy because of a silly girl”

“You are not silly” he said in a soft whisper. We were getting too close for comfort ad yet none of us wanted to move away.

“I know…you are…” said I. the space between us disappeared. I was not aware that his hand was around my waist and another was touching my face as he kissed me.

“Yes I am…Matilda; call me silly for I would not have lived if you became his wife.” And for once that handsome face smiled.
