Stars in Her Eyes

Prologue

From the very moment I met her, I knew that she was a dreamer. She had her head tilted towards the sky and her arms spread out to catch the wind. I remember her turning to me with blue eyes that glittered with wonder and innocence that were so much like a child’s.

And that look… She looked to me as if I could take her places that she had never known. As if I was her Superman of some sort.

Funny thing was that I wanted to be her superhero and sweep her off her feet. I wanted to be everything she wanted me to be and more. I look back now and realize that it was a foolish thing to hope for. The only thing I did was hold her back from doing what she really wanted to do; leave.

In reality, I let her down.

I guess that I should have expected it when she finally left without a word.

Don’t get me wrong… We loved each other. We spent hours, days, and weeks together during our senior year of high school. Every moment we got would be spent whispering secrets that we didn’t want the world to know in each other’s ears. In those moments I always found my hand entangled in her golden locks and even today, I miss that feeling.

When she left, I blamed myself. I could have made her stay. Maybe if I had tried harder to make things different, her intrigue would have gotten her to stay. But as the days passed by I began to realize that I couldn’t keep her back. Like I said, she was a dreamer. It’s kind of like that cheesy saying: “If you love something, let it go… If it comes back it’s yours forever but if it doesn’t, it wasn’t meant to be.”

For the longest time, I believed the latter of that statement.

That was until she finally came back.

Author’s Note: Hey, I’m back! I’ll keep this short and sweet… This story is kind of a spin-off of my one-shot, Horizon. It’s not going to be as err… depressing as my other two stories. Oh, and yes. The main character here is male. I thought I’d try something different. Hope you guys enjoy it!
