Smell the freshness of the air!
Laden with apple blossoms and lush grass,
It sweeps up from the meadow,
Where blackberries reign with fierce pride.
The columbine bows her delicate head;
A darling lady among robust grasses;
She leans against the red boards of the carriage house
And flutters her leaves with the wandering breeze,
While the pussywillow, having shed its soft blooms,
Bursts forth in velvet green,
Singing with the snowy dogwood and the laden breeze
With sweet promise of summer.
