“I be back,” she always said

My first sentence followed suite

And back again she’d always come

With lots more love to boot

Always back for me she’d come

Her love of life persistent

Never wavering in strength

Never reminiscent

Always looking to the future

Never dwelling on the pain

Every issue just a hurdle

Work and happiness the same

My yaya, she was always strong

Though her bones had withered down

No matter what life did to her

Her hope would never drown

“I be back,” she always said

And true to her word she’ll always be

Even when she’s gone from Earth

I know she’ll be waiting for me
