Two souls knelt before the Throne of God.

“How may I help you, my children?” God asked.

“We have a problem,” the handsome soul beside me said.

“We love the same woman,” I whispered.

The Lord frowned, and the Heaven’s roared with thunder. “How is that possible? Each soul only has one soul-mate!”

I bowed my head, and couldn’t bear to look into the eyes of God. “Two souls are joined when an Angel smiles. But the Angel of Love smiled upon us both, Lord, and now we are doomed to love the same soul.”

The Lord sank into his Throne of Clouds and asked, “Who loves her more?”

The handsome, masculine soul beside me stood, and placed his hand across his heart, “I love her the most!”

The Lord nodded, and turned to me. I lifted my weary eyes and whispered, “I just want her to be happy, Lord. It would be much easier for her on Earth to love a man, than it would be for her to love a woman.” I paused, and took a deep breath, “If she would be happier loving him, then so be it.”

I crumpled to the ground, and wept at God's feet.

With a wave of his hand, the soul beside me vanished in a whirl of joyous light.

I felt God’s hand raise my head, and I stared into his brilliant, sparkling eyes. “He loves her very much, you know. That is why I have chosen him.”

The clouds beneath me began to cry heavy, grey tears.

The Lord dried my eyes, embraced me in his arms, and said, “That man may get to love her on Earth, Dear One. But you shall love her better after death—for eternity.”
