melted love

if you were mine and i was yours
and life was beautiful, so beautiful
there are about a million little things
that i would do to keep your love

i would wrap you up in cellophane
and stick you in my pocket
on a warm day, and pray you not to melt

and when you melted, as you would,
i'd sit outside and let the sun
turn me to a puddle,
and we'd lay a sticky melted mess
together

we would dissipate into the air
and finally we'd fly, together, you and i
as a million little particles of melted love

and when we rained back down,
the world would taste us on their skin
and proclaim us truly the greatest rain of all

and somewhere, someone will place
their love within their pocket,
for safe keeping from the rain,
taste us on their tongue and say

"i pray my love won't melt today"
