Author's Notes: The Cat That Lost His Meow is another short poem/diddy I came up with overnight and thought I'd post it here. Like my other cat inspired piece, "Cat In The Closet", this was inspired by my cat, Riley (so I guess we can call this "The Riley Series" now, because I have another one in mind). It's just a short drabble I came up with while he drank water from my glass in bed this morning.

There once was a cat named Riley,

Who lost his meow entirely.

He woke up early, in fact, it was dawn,

To find that his meow was entirely gone.

He looked in the kitchen,

And behind the TV.

There was no sign of it.

Where could it be?

He looked in the closet.

He looked under the bed.

He looked in the dryer,

And out in the shed.

He looked in the sink,

And up on the roof

His meow was still missing.

He had to find proof.

He looked way up high.

He looked way down low.

He even searched through

The backyard, you know.

He questioned the dog,

But had no luck in his search.

He questioned the parakeet

Up on his perch.

He questioned the squirrel

Up in his tree.

But the 'meow' thief

He did not see.

He questioned the turtle

Down by the lake.

But a reliable witness

He did not make.

Finally, Riley began to think.

He was growing quite hungry

As the sun it did sink.

He was so busy searching

And come what may,

He remembered that he

Had not eaten all day!

He was very hungry

And now he knew why.

Had he lost his meow?

He had to try!

He arched his back

And opened his mouth.

His tail pointed north,

His head to the south.

He may have been small

But he roared like a lion.

And through the house

His owners came flyin’!

A can of tuna was opened forthwith.

The cat with no meow…

was merely a myth.
