I awoke and looked at the clock to find six hours had passed. I jumped up, surprised. It was now three in the afternoon. I looked around to find him sleeping on the floor. Sympathy swept through me. I slipped out from under the covers and pulled my jeans on. I walked over to him smiling. I pulled the covers off the bed and put it over him gently, and grabbed a pillow and picked up his head gently and placed it on the pillow. He awoke a little, but not enough to really talk or anything. “Poor thing, he must be so tired!” I went to the bathroom to relieve myself and washed my hands. I straightened my hair some more and fixed my makeup and began bringing things back out to my car. I went back into the room and grabbed the cup of milk and cereal and ate. I threw away the now empty container and cup and quickly brushed my teeth and put them back in my small bag and went out and put that in my car as well. I locked the car, just in case, and I went back to the room. I slipped on my sandals, looked around to make sure I had everything, and knew I had to wake him up now. I would have left him sleeping and waited for him, but I really wanted to see Skyler; I missed her so much.

“Hey, Josh, wake up.” I said while softly patting him. He stirred a little and was soon awake, but he almost jumped when he saw me leaning over him, and I almost laughed. “You alright?” I asked.

“Yeah, fine. What’s wrong?”

“Time to go.”

“Oh,” he began and looked at the pillow and covers on himself, “did you do this?”

I shrugged, “Yeah” and walked to the door, opening it. I turned back to see if he was coming, and I found him placing the covers and pillow back on the bed as neat as he could, then he turned and smiled at me. Suddenly a fluttering feeling in my stomach came and looked down, blushing. “What is wrong with me? I can’t feel attracted to him, I love Skyler-”

“You okay?” he asked; a concerned look on his face.

“Yes, I’m fine.” I said quickly and regretted it; my voice shook a little. He walked out before me and closed the door behind me.

He turned back to me, “Which car is yours?”

“The black one.” I took my keys out my pocket and unlocked it, and he walked over to it and stopped in his steps.

“What?” I asked when I approached him.

“You have a black convertible?” he asked and I shrugged. “A black Jaguar XK convertible?” he asked again, in disbelief.

“My parents had some good money.” I mumbled and hopped into the driver’s seat. It didn’t take long after that for him to hop into the car as well.

He began buckling then sat still, as if he didn’t want to touch anything. I sighed, hoping it wouldn’t be an awkward ride.

I pulled to the front of the building and ran inside to pay and give them the key back to the room and jogged back to my car and soon I was back on the interstate. “So, is there anywhere you needed to get to?” I asked, turning the radio down a bit.

“Not really. Anywhere is fine.”

“Well, I’m going to go live with my best friend, and she lives near this area.” I said, pointing to a spot on a map that I pulled out of my purse quickly. He looked at it and nodded; studying it. A few seconds passed with silence other than the song on the radio, which was “Shining Star” by Backstreet Boys.

“You can drop me off in this little town; it’s on the way to your friend’s house.”

“Best friend.” I quickly corrected. I wanted him to understand the importance of her to me.

“Um, sorry, best friend.” He smiled and folded the map and placed it back in my purse, except not where it belonged. I quickly moved my hand and pushed it back where it was supposed to be. I glanced over to him to see if he had noticed I moved it, but he didn’t. He was enjoying himself looking at all the different buttons and dials in my car. I mentally rolled my eyes; but then regretted it.

“I think you are low on gas.” He said, looking past my hands.

“Oh, I guess so. Thanks.” I half-laughed and looked around for a sign to know where to pull off and get some more.

It didn’t take long to take an exit and find a gas station. I was holding the pump in the car when he came out and asked if he could go in and buy something. I gave him a curious look, and he then cracked. “Uh, could I borrow some money?”

I nodded, “I thought so.” I grinned, “We’ll go in together. Just to make sure you buy something good.”

We walked into the store together and I headed straight for the drinks. I grabbed an orange Fanta, while he grabbed a bottle of wine. He smirked at me and I shook my head no. He faked a sad face and put it back. He walked to a different store and grabbed a Sprite. He then headed towards the snack area, but I lingered by the drinks. I saw a bottle of water and thought about it. Fanta or water? Fanta tastes really good, but I always have to burp afterwards. Water, on the other hand, was better for you and there was no burping after drinking it. I switched my drink for a water and smiled; I felt good about my new choice. Now the snacks; chocolate or chips? Cookies or pretzels? Skittles or M&M’s? There were so many good choices. Normally my parents would make them for me, and I was beginning to think perhaps I could by them all. No, there was no need to waste money like that; after all, I had to watch over him-Wait, what am I thinking? He’s not a child; I’m just helping him out a bit. Once I get to Skyler’s house I will be living with her and I’ll never see Josh again, right?
