--

Pools of blood

Soaking through the carpets

Clotting in puddles

Dripping slowly down the stairs

A knife slips from strained red fingers

A gentle tap on the floor

Following the crimson river down the hall

Left alone

Left to die

A last gasp

Inhaled through clenched jaws

Then still

Footsteps lead away

Leaving scarlet patterns on the floor

Retrieving the weapon of ruby

And with a clap of immortal hands

It's done.
