summer time

i haven’t tried to write something
in three weeks
not including the scribbles on margins of paper,
and the secrets i promised
to never tell you in journals i know you’ll
never read.

in less than a week i’ll string
pearls around my neck,
teeter-tooter in shoes that make my legs
look longer,
pretend i know how to curl my hair.

after a week of grey skies and pullovers
the sun shined.
i was
able to wear flips-flops
from last summer,
take a walk to not so discreetly
watch the boy
down the road do tricks on his skateboard

“that’s pretty cool”
“thanks”

at least he didn’t catch my grin.

i clean up good,
you know
summer tends to put a bounce in my step,
make me lift my chin like a
flower to savour those late afternoon
rays of light.

a year ago i would have never looked you
in the eye
but now i’m one year older and adventure feels
so close.

a/n: I'm waiting for something big to happen.
