Close to You

You look at me in the eye with that amused expression on your face, like I had something stuck in between my teeth or something. I grin back. It amazes me that you can still make me smile even after all these years.

I suddenly felt shy.. shy since you seem to know more about me than I even know myself. We seem to have this unspoken connection.. an understanding between two friends, or are we still one? Friends, I mean.

You grab my hand and started walking. Inspite of the awkward silence, I felt serene, like my hand in yours was the most natural thing in the world. Like it was what was suppose to happen at this exact moment.

I started remembering the last time we talked. We had an argument because I simply did not want you to leave. I ended up crying since you wouldn't listen. You were so stubborn back then. I don't know if you still are.

A lot of things had changed. I wasn't the same naive girl you once knew. You still had that unique boyish charm, though.

You paused and became aware of the cloudy sky. I began to think that this wasn't such a good idea. I should have stayed at home and ignored your calls.

"I know you're mad at me. I'm really grateful that you agreed to meet me.", you started.

"Why did you leave (me) in the first place?", I asked bluntly.

Instead of answering, you just stared at me with those same lonely eyes. It was as if you were pleading me to realize that it was useless to have a fight with you now.

I sighed and nodded. You still could get away with anything. That fact remained unchanged.

It started to drizzle a little.

Instead of running and finding shelter, we remained.

Time and everything else seemed to stop in that precise instant. In other words, everything was absolutely perfect.

You seemed out of breath.

My heart skipped a beat.

We kissed in the rain.
