In Essence

In essence

So what becomes of shredded paper

Fragments of ides

Pieces of memories

Torn to bits

Of shredded paper

And what of the wine glasses

That used to fill the room

Bring out joy and laughter

Cascaded to the ground

In a pile of recycled trash

Then, what happened to the silverware

The feast they once hosted

Now shrapnel blown about

Gliding effortlessly through the blast

Striking anyone foolish enough to be present

And what becomes of stained sheets

Sullied and soaked in filth

Lay, untouched, unwanted

Left to the homeless drifter

Who finds comfort in their mess

So what of the mess you left behind

In essence a pile of trash

Condemned to the incinerator

Damned to a landfill
