until I'm ready to give up

by, Cassandra

“Fall in line, take a side.
Right is wrong, and wrong is right.
It’s all inside your mind.”

I can’t adapt to your way of thinking,
so I turn away, away, away, and
if there was somewhere else to go, I'd run.

Trapped in this endless circle,
I spin around, around, around.
Freedom becomes impossibility.

And I turn to invisibility.
Screaming fades to whispers,
echoing in the silent air.

You act like you don't hear;
just take my hand, smile,
and murmur in my ear:

“Fall in line, take a side.
Right is wrong, and wrong is right.
It’s all inside your mind.”
