Chapter 2:

Chapter 2
Procrastination is the Key

When I woke up the next morning, I felt a weird chill spasm up my spine as if someone was looking at me. If chills could spasm… Needless to say, when I looked around my room, it was evident that no one was there. Today was Saturday and a very glorious day at that. The sun was up high in the sky, (I realised I had slept in) and it was warm outside. I finished my breakfast, got ready for the day, ignored the awaiting doom on my desk – I mean the homework I had to mark for my little year 4’s. All the usual…

Then something, though I’m not sure what, was pulling me outside towards the park. It felt like someone had told me to go outside to the park and meet them there.

As I walked outside to the park, across the road from the block of apartments I live in, I saw him. He looked at me like he was expecting me and as I looked closer, I realised he was coming towards me. As always, I got worried and started heading in the opposite direction as inconspicuously as I could. Oh yes, I remembered what had happened yesterday, with the whole fainting-in-assembly thing…

I was stopped by a hand on my shoulder. I turned around to see…

“Hi there, running from someone?” asked Oscar, looking at me with his hypnotising eyes. An amused smile spread over his breathtaking face.

Of course it’s Oscar. Who else would it be?

“Not really,” I said, blushing. Damnit, I was sprung! I just wanted to go back up to my apartment and hide in there. “What brings you here?”

“Well… I came to see an old friend of mine, but she doesn’t seem to be there,” Oscar said, his smile fading away.

The thing about Oscar was that you could always tell he was lying even when he tried to hide it.

“What are you doing today?” he asked, with anticipation on his face.

“Well, I was planning on spending the whole day locked up in my apartment but, now that I’m outside, I have no idea.” Only then did I notice that he had subtly changed the subject. Damn him and his subtleness!

“Want to go for a walk around the park, if you have no idea what you’re doing today?”

It only took me a split second to decide: “Ok, I suppose one walk would be fine.” What are you doing Lily? I asked myself, a little belated; you can’t just go for a walk with him, what if someone sees you together? What if it is someone from your work? Oh shut up brain. One walk can’t hurt.

It is at times like that that I wish I was right. As you can guess, something went wrong and I ended up in his apartment. I couldn’t even remember what happened.

FLASHBACK:

We were walking around the park, as usual there were teenagers out socialising etc, etc. As always, the football team were out playing football for fun. I was just talking to Oscar, with a little giggle here and there. What? I couldn’t stop myself.

Suddenly, rudely interrupting our wonderful walk, someone screamed “FOOTBALL!” and the next thing I knew a spinning football came flying at my head and I was out.

Now I remember. I must have been knocked out by the football. See, this was why I didn’t play football.

It was then that Oscar came out of nowhere.

“Hey sunshine how’s the head?” He seemed happy enough that I hit my head. What a great friend he was!

Well duh, I felt like saying to him. How would I feel if I was him and my friend was knocked out by a football and was carried back to my very clean and very beautiful and…

WAIT. I’m getting sidetracked here.

I need to find an excuse to get out of this place before something else happens.

--

As I tried to find a way out of the amazing apartment (which was almost completely clean) I found Rover. Rover was a dog I gave Oscar 5 years ago as a birthday present. I can’t believe that Rover was still healthy, and alive at that. He was just a puppy when I picked him up from the RSPCA and the people said that he probably wouldn’t live past 2 ½ years of age. Well that taught them suckers!

Rover seemed to remember me because as I bent down to pat him, he came right up to me and started barking and running around in circles; I cringed at the loud noise. I didn’t really want to have Oscar know that I was leaving without saying goodbye but that was kinda too late, thanks to Rover here. “Hey, you’re leaving?”

“Well, um... yeah, but I should be getting going because I have some stuff to do.” Damn it! What a lame excuse. I’m sure I could have thought of a better one, especially at my age. I’ve had like a million years to think of plenty. Ok, quick! Change the subject! “You kept Rover in shape. That’s good to see.”

“Yeah, he was very sick about 2 ½ years ago, but hey, I wouldn’t give him up for the world. He’s my best friend.”

“Yes I can see that, he is a good dog. But anyway, I should be on my way. I have some marking to do. Just because the school has a new principal, a.k.a you, doesn’t mean that I can leave all my marking. Goodbye Oscar. See you soon. ” And with that I was shown the door and left.

--

I remembered my thoughts when I was inside the house, and surmised that I had been delirious from getting knocked out by a stupid football. I mean, why else would I think of a guy as ‘beautiful’? I mean, he is rather hot, but…

Wait. I was over-thinking this too much. Whatever, I’ll think of this tomorrow.

See, procrastination really is the key with these kind of matters.

I sighed, glancing at the year 4’s homework.

Well, sometimes.
