Love Forever Young

(Inspired by xfail’s poem: ‘Fill’)

I stand and feel your face one last time

Frozen in peace

You lay with your arms crossed

Keeping your heart within your breast

I don’t hear your breath,

The inhale and exhale are gone.

My lips kiss yours

They’re cold—I miss the warmth

I imagine the sunset and hold you close

Nuzzle into your hair, the crook of your neck

The scent of you spills into me like water

My heart seizes and I feel the tears fall onto your mouth

Drink up the elixir of my love, take it in and answer me.

“Answer me.” My voice breaks and my heart feels heavy

Hands pull me away, I scream out, crying

Break this spell, wake, and kiss me before you are gone

I feel the scribbling of ink upon the paper, bleeding from my tears

I love you.

Three simple words

Tucked into an envelope

A heart sealed away

“Answer me.”

The rage of fire answers

I scream, curl into a ball

Close my sightless eyes

Imagine your face kept safe by the glass of my heart

And let my heartbeat spill it through my veins

A portrait of blind love forever young.
