“First Class, come to the front please. First Class, come to the front please. Thank you.”

He stood up.

“Hey, it’s only first class.” I motioned to him to sit down patiently.

He made a disgusted face at me and showed me his plane ticket.

FIRST CLASS bold and big… arrogantly belittling me…just like that smirk I wanted to wipe off of his face.

I felt as though I had shrunk twenty centimeters as he spun around.

“What an annoying person.” He scoffed.

My head steamed.

During the entire plane ride, I felt my blood rushing, my fingers twitching, and my knuckles cracking. I wanted to punch his pretty face so bad, smash it to bits against the ground.

We landed, and as I exited the plane, I saw him waiting at the end, carrying his bag and pulling an expensive suitcase.

“Hurry,” he ordered, “I’m hungry.”

“So demanding.” I glared at him.

My mom brought him to a Japanese restaurant and he picked out the most expensive dishes.

“You spoiled brat.” I nearly screamed, clenching my chopsticks tightly in fear that I would actually chuck it at his eye and watch blood spurt out neatly…no no, must control self…

My mom calmly ate, and at the end, before my mom could even take out her wallet, he had swiped out a golden credit card, handed it to the waitress.

My mom frowned.

I explained to him that it wasn’t right to let the guest pay, but he only pointed to his expensive dishes.

“I don’t expect you to pay for my meals.”

My knuckles were now bleeding from restraint. I saw my skin go white from clenching them so hard.

We reached our apartment and he stepped out of the car, surveying the building carefully. When wee had finished putting our luggage into our house, I had to go over and help him out.

I rang the doorbell three times. No answer. I knocked and banged. I returned home and told my mom he was taking a nap from jetlag.

I ran to my room and began punching my pillow that somehow reminded me faintly of his peculiar nose, dark eyes, and egg-shaped head. Yes, to squish his eyes out like this and eat the stuffing from his brains…

“You deaf person!” I screamed beneath my breath, “I really hate arrogant males like you! Go die!”

My mother and I were eating dinner together when she suddenly remembered something.

“Ah! Sayu! I forgot. We have the keys to his apartment.”

“What? Why didn’t you tell me that sooner?”

“They’re in that drawer, go and see if he’s hungry.”

I doubted that, seeing that he could afford to pay for his own food. But I took the keys anyway and put the rest of the food in a box and plastic bag. I rang the doorbell again, impatiently.

No answer. I placed the key in and entered.

Click.

A somewhat guilty feeling of trespassing and breaking in panged at the side of my thoughts, but I quickly pushed them away, justifying it with this plate of food I held in my hand.

The door opened and I shut it behind me. The apartment was empty, save three suitcases and a backpack. No shoes anywhere. There was one bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen, and living room. No furniture anywhere. No chairs even. It occurred to me that he had probably gone to get some during this entire day.

Somehow the angry feelings flushed away. I set the plate of food on the kitchen counter and smiled curiously. But after noticing the smile, I quickly wiped it off my face and chose to leave before any chances of being discovered.

I reached for the handle. I heard a clack and turning of a key. Too late!

Surprised and scared, I jumped back, wondering if I could hide anywhere.

Bathroom I dashed for it, but the door was now open and…

“Hey!”

I stopped moving at once. Something heavy hung in the air, and I was poised in an awkward position…frozen.

“You. What are you doing here?’

I turned around nervously to face his grim mouth and serious eyes.

Gulp.

“I…I was bringing some dinner for you. My mom told me.” I added the last part significantly.

“I already ate.”

“Oh, okay then…” I picked up the plate of food. It was cold.

“I’ll be going now.” I wedged my way past him through the door.

He had been still standing at the doorway.

“Wait.” He suddenly ordered.

I turned obediently, nearly trembling for unknown reasons.

“Come back once you’re done. Bring me a futon.”

I stared at him for a while.

“A…futon?”

“Yeah. I need to sleep. What’s wrong with that?” He snapped.

I suppressed my laughter, holding my mouth firmly.

“What?” he demanded, noticing my shaking body.

I let out my laughter, then controlled myself.

“They don’t’ use futons in America.”

He said nothing. I suspected it was a shock for him.

“Oh, I remember.” He said to himself.

I wondered if he really did remember. Then I suggested obligingly…

“My mom said…well, you can come sleep at our apartment just for tonight.”

He stood there for a minute, I could see him preparing to reject the proposal. But to my surprise, he accepted.

“Or…”

“Alright. For tonight, just tonight. Tomorrow, bring me shopping.”

My eyes widened, “What? Really? I mean, right…okay.” I opened my door and he went in.

“Ohmo, did you eat?” My mom looked up at us, surprised to see him.

“He already ate outside.”

“Oh.”

“He’s going to sleep here. Tomorrow we have to bring him to buy a mattress.”

I told her about the futon and she laughed loudly. She smiled at him. He had been watching us bemusedly, but his face was still stony.

“You can sleep in Sayu’s bed. She’ll sleep on the couch.”

“What! But mom! There’s no way—”

“I’ll just sleep on the couch.”

I stared at him. Such genteel I had never seen from him before…

“I don’t like sleeping in a girl’s room.” He added.

I flushed angrily, his genteel image quickly shattered.

“Sayu, go get some extra blankets.”

“Right.” I answered begrudgingly, glaring at him and muttering things beneath my breath.

“Here. And a Hello Kitty plush to match it.” I threw some blankets at him.

“What is this? A three-year-old matching bed set?” He gave the waving kitty a scornful look.

“Oh shut up and use it. I’m being generous enough. The other one’s Barbie.”

“What’s…Barbie?”

“Urgh, just use this one. You should be grateful!” I began spreading out the blankets.

“Where’s the shower?” He asked suddenly.

“Huh? Oh, you need to take one?” I asked uneasily.

“Yes.”

“Over there,” I pointed, I walked over, opened the door.

“Towels here. Toothbrushes here. Sink, toilet, soap, shampoo, blow dryer. Anything else you need to know?”

“No.” He head for the outside door.

“Hey, where are you going?”

“Get my stuff.” He slammed the door behind him.

“Idiot. I’m not going to let him back in.”

“Sayu. I’m going to sleep.” She looked around, “Where is he?”

“Getting shower stuff.”

“Oh. Remember to wear pants to sleep. And lock your door.”

“Mom!”

“Good night.”

“Like I wouldn’t do those things already? Geez.”

Knocking.

“Pfft, stupid guy. Who told him to slam the door in the first place?”

I unlocked the door and opened it.

“What takes so long. Geez.” He stormed in, immediately heading for the bathroom.

“Bull!” I muttered.
