I wrote this for a writing exercise on GaiaOnline. The goal was to write 100 words or less, and I managed exactly 100 words, according to Microsoft Works and Open Office. The prompt was:
Genre: Fantasy
Setting: Volcano
Mood: Excitement
Archetype: Whoever (I chose Naive Fairy and Cryptic Elf)
She stared into the red lake below. “It's so beautiful!” the fairy cried in pleasure.
“There's something more interesting further down,” the elf said.
She clapped her hands together with purest delight. “What is it?”
“Ah, it is not my place to tell. You must see for yourself to believe. I will wait here.”
She raced forward, heart racing. The heat was uncomfortable, but not too much so. “Does it glitter?” she cried up to him. “Is it beautiful?”
“Perhaps.”
“I cannot wait! Below the red water, right?”
“Of course, my dear.”
And the fairy could annoy him no longer.
