"Hello?" I answered.
Momentary silence, deafening.
It choked me as I tried to swallow.
And then, cutting silence, blooming heat in my ears, you sang…

It was like a secret, some hushed unknown fact
that you had to get off of your chest at the moment,
before we both lost our minds.

"I'm on my way home," I promised.
Two more hours.
One.
One half.

I'm here.
