Natalie Martin

My name is Natalie Martin.

I was named after my great-aunt.

I never met my great-aunt.

She is dead.

Her husband buried her in Columbus, Ohio.

I hate Columbus, Ohio.

My father is dead too.

He is buried in our backyard.

That’s where my Uncle Ross buried him.

Sometimes I go out to his grave,

and stand over it for hours.

I don’t say anything.

I don’t speak at all.

I don’t speak because of my mother.

My mother is a horrible person.

People shouldn’t say things about their mother,

but I’m not a person.

I am a mute.

Or, at least, that is what my mother calls me.

She has a boyfriend named Luke.

Luke is a figure skater.

I think Luke is gay.

I have no friends.

No one likes me.

I don’t like any of them either.

People don’t understand me.

They call me names,

speak behind my back,

and laugh at me.

As long as they don’t call me a mute,

I’m fine.

Sorry it's so short. But this story is told in free verse poem, so every chapter is kind of short :). Anyway, I wanted to write this after my English class read the book Out of the Dust. I really liked the way it was written so I decided to write something similar.

Please review! I know it sucks, but the least you could do is review. :)
