Ch. 3 Hey all You Ghosts and Ghouls!

Ahhh... the classics. Who doesn't love a nice ghost story around the campfire? Especially if it's filled with a hint of mystery and maybe a little romance? Ghost stories have been around for a long time. Either they're haunting legends, terrifying poltergeists, or seeking help so they can move on to the Afterlife. There are too many ways to write about these pale beings.

The Many personalities of your Ghost

Because there are so many ways to write about ghosts you have to match their personalities with the genre, setting, and plot. For example, if the plot was about an evil possessing ghost, you obviously have to make the personality very demonic and blood thirsty. This ghost would end up being the villain and in no means should become good. Why? Because that's just how evil, demonic, and blood thirsty ghosts roll.

Horror: Normally Horror can go well with a hint of romance, but it's more focused on suspense. You could have some twisted spirit that falls in love with a human or something. Or maybe a ghost haunts a couple out of jealousy.

Comedy: Ghosts in SR comedy fiction tend to ask for help from a medium or Mediator (See Meg Cabot's series The Mediator). They're also less intimidating and don't always look like the walking dead, more like they have a furry aura or something. These ghosts can also be very nosy and love to barge in on things that have nothing to do with them. That's up to you though.

Sci-Fi: I have yet to read a Si-Fi story with ghosts, which may be good news for you. Maybe the ghost could be from the future or have some weird power.

There are still many genres you can play with when writing your SR ghost fiction, just keep the ones up top in mind.

Who Ya Gonna Call? Ghost Busters!

This surprisingly catchy theme song sometimes comes to mind when thinking or talking about ghosts. Ghost Hunters. They're also a good thing to use in your fiction. Your main character may be their very own ghost buster, or maybe there's a goofy ghost hunter in the cast that seems to show up after all the action.

The ghosts may not even know there are such things as ghost hunters and over-run somewhere. Then, as the ghosts bask in their scaring freedom, a courageous Ghost Hunter shows up and kicks some bad ghost butt.

Other Unworldly Forces:

Maybe your being form the great beyond isn't a ghost, maybe it's a zombie, or a demon. Ruh-Roh, looks like the Mystery Gang may want to step off Home Plate.

Zombies: Ever seen that movie 28 Days Later? Yeah, definitely something you don't want to use in an SR fiction. The scariness of the zombies distracts the attention of the main couple's development and makes the story a complete mess. Step down to something on the lines of I Am Legend. Maybe a sickness breaks out that only affects certain people, so a huge colony teams together to try and figure out how to find a cure.

If you want more of a comedy, why not create a school filled with ghoulish people? Zombies have their own society and try to live normal lives. Call it the run-of-the-mill The Munsters or Adam's Family comedyfiction. It may claim to be a head-roller!

Demons: This may be what you need if your writing an SR Fantasy fiction. Demons are referred to in almost every culture and are also feared greatly. You could create a whole new world that revolves around a giant battle of Good vs. Evil. Maybe there's a twist, that actually the demons aren't entirely bad, and there are people in the world that frame them as evil. Maybe they're not even demons, maybe they're some mystical creature that looks like a demon. It may be a curse, or something that separates them from other cultures.

The romance between your character may be the key to your whole world finding out that these demons aren't really all that bad, but that it's actually their lying leaders.

These creatures that seem to chill us to the bone may play a key role in your fiction, and a whole new universe that's waiting for its fate to be written. All you need to do is develop how everything is going to work and if it works out at all. Love between these beings is almost uncomprehensible. Play it up, as I like to say. Check back next time to find out what you can do to make your SR fiction shine.

AN: Hey! Thanks for reading V.W.N.G. Oh My! chapter 3. I hope this will benefit for your fiction and I hope you'll check back when chapter four is posted! Speaking of chapter four, we'll be observing how our heroes and heroines play a huge factor in the story, even if they're just humans.
