He says she looks pretty in panic
And your eyes grow w-i-d-e
at the thought of her
She must be wonderful
Oh and her skin
Beautiful.

And you smile as she does
And I smile because you do
(It'd be rude if I didn't)
And you and me
We shine together
But in the end we're just street lights
Them, they're the stars we name after ourselves
Gorgeous but lightyears away
(Baby, this light is blinding
And you're hurting me
And I'd never want to hurt you
So let's dim this down, kay?)
It's not easy

keeping distance
But I'm happy
And you're happy
(But you're lonely
And I'm lonely
So we do the unthinkable)
We'll be untouchable just this once
And we'll leap off of buildings
Just for the thrill
And I'll love it all the way down
But I'll never love you
And you'll always love her
(If we're lucky we won't walk away from this)
So smile pretty, baby
No need for us to panic

Always lonely
And easily replaced
We're just streetlights.
