The Light

I was locked away inside a dark secluded room with no way out and no way in. I desperately clung on to my burning candle, my last evidence of hope. I cupped it with protection and wished for it to never die out. But it did. I was left staring into the nothingness of the pitch black room, continuously groping into the dark void for the slightest ember of hope. I eventually gave up and drowned myself in the waters of numbness. But then you came to me. You, who miraculously penetrated my impervious barrier with your blinding light; it was as if I had just removed a set of blindfolds and welcomed the world to enter through my eyes. I found the room to have immediately illuminated with hundreds of candles, and yet, you still shone the brightest.
