She’s tired of always waiting for you, she is

She’s tired of always waiting for you, she is.

She’s lonely and afraid and tired of jumping at every knock

Hoping it might be you.

You’re never coming back.

The hot summer days drift by like smoke from a crematorium.

Baking

Her insides solidifying under the heat and pressure

She is like stone

Her heart

Protected

Tired of the winds, the wiles of fate,

She forgets you, forgets time,

Drifts along in the smoke.

She is tired of the fate that brought you

And sent you away

The fate that broke her and shattered her long before

You taught her to live again

(And now she wishes you hadn’t)

There would have been no pain in your passing.

Instead, she eats strawberries

Solves puzzles and watches TV

Her housemate in the other room

Watching a different show

Her phone buzzing ‘new message new message’

She doesn’t answer

She’s tired of trying to believe.
