AN: The first in my "For The Want of..." series. It's really short, and a little amusing I guess, but it's a start. The stories in this series will vary drastically, so keep an open mind if you want to follow it. I hope there will be somebody who will read this, since I haven't been on here in a long time and I'm not sure if I have watchers anymore...or at least ones who care whether I write anything or not. Anyway, enjoy.
For The Want of a Shoe…
“Come on, Andy, hurry up!”
“I’m coming, give me a minute!” Andy growled as he crawled around his room on his hands and knees, searching desperately under his bed, desk, anything that might hide his size 7 tennis shoe. One was already fitted snugly onto his left foot, but the right one was ever elusive.
“Damnit!” He screamed, sitting up on his knees. His best friend Gerry had come over unexpectedly, claiming that his favorite band Bullet Wound was performing downtown for free. He was not going to miss this opportunity. He wouldn’t forgive himself if he did.
Gerry appeared at his bedroom door and leaned against the frame, glaring at him as he started crawling again, desperately re-searching everywhere he’d already looked.
“Dude, you have got to be the slowest person,” he groaned. “Will you just come on?”
“Shut up, I can’t find my shoe! If you want me to go any faster, help me!” Gerry crinkled his nose as he looked around.
“In this sty? Please. No wonder you can’t find the damn thing.” Andy sighed exasperatedly and glanced up at the digital clock. It was almost 5:00 already. He didn’t want to miss a minute of his favorite band’s music.
He kicked off the one shoe he had managed to find and pulled the white socks from his feet, tossing them in the hamper.
“Let’s go,” he said, and followed his friend out the door.
