A frightened scream. My ears picked it up as I ran through the forest. She was small, fragile. A young human girl. I also heard cackling.
"We're gonna eat great tonight, Brother!"
"You're right, Brother! This human girl shall make a wonderful feast..."
"Not on my watch, she won't!"
The two cannibals turned to face me. Fox demons. They looked up in the tree where I was.
"How dare you interfere with our meal!"
"Damn half-demons think they can do whatever they want!"
I smiled, prepared for any threat these two foxes would become. One of the foxes charged me.
"I'll show you, wolf!"
"Spirit of the Wise Wolf, bestow me your power!"
As the fox came at me, I sidestepped his attack. Moments later, I threw his still-beating bloody heart at his brother's feet.
"You'll pay for that, half-breed!"
The other fox's muscles grew to a size that could never be reached through rigorous training.
"Now, die!"
The demon threw a punch with one of his beefy fists that I caught with one of my hands. With my other hand, I landed an open-handed palm strike that sent the fox flying backward. I got into a fighting stance.
"Looking for more?" I said.
The fox got up again and lumbered toward me again. I drew my sword, the Moonblade. I sliced the fox down the middle as his body split in half. I put my sword away as I walked toward the little girl that was frozen in fear. I extended my hand to her. She took it and got on my back.
"Thank you, Jinryu,"
I smiled as I took the girl back to where her father was. The girl got off of my back as her father stepped forward and pulled a knife out on me.
"Get away, monster."
I sighed. I usually got this from some ingrate who I helped or knew someone I helped. It seems that half-demons aren't too popular around these parts, especially since humans are a bunch of cowards and fear change. I didn't say anything. I just snatched the knife away from the man and threw a kick that sent him into a crate filled with oranges and stormed away. Arrogant bastard, who did he think he was?
