Unrequited

You once said to me,
"I love you,"
And I was too blind to see
All these years with no clue.

You were nice to me
And this whole time
I was mean as can be;
You never said it was a crime.

I had no idea, honestly,
I knew I could never be yours …
Why would you love me?
There were just too many closed doors.

And stupid me, I shouted back,
Saying your love was unrequited,
That you had intelligence to lack,
That you were too blind to see what was to be sighted.

Now you've left me a kiss and a goodbye,
Wanting to tell you, "I love you," says I.
