A/N: This is a short maybe scene from my story 'Flyer'...someday I'll think of a better title lol. Anyway, some of the statements might not click since this would be in the middle somewhere, but you should still understand the situation without the back story. I won't be posting the actual story for a bit, because when I started it...I was even crappier at writing than now and also I've changed a few things to better the story. So once I get a good chunk reworked I'll start posting it XD
Oh, and Ein is pronounced Ian...I just like spelling it that way so nyah!
The grey water rushed to the shoreline in choppy, foamy swells that left a frothy edge on the sand when it pulled back. A strong gust of cold, salty air pushed his thick hair back and blew it in twists and tangles around his face. The sensation sending shivers down his spine, so like flying but not as exhilarating. He longed to spread his wings wide and let the air rush through the heavy weight of feathers, feathers the same bottomless, ebony black as his hair. He longed to…but he had to settle for spreading his arms wide in their stead; he could not reveal his wings here where he could be so easily spotted.
He held his arms out and tilted his face into the breeze, letting his body sway as the wind buffeted him. He wanted to fly, right then, just leap into the sky and never stop. If he could just keep going, fly away and leave everything behind…just fly ‘til his body couldn’t take anymore and free fall into that wonderfully freezing ocean. He was almost tempted to do just that, or maybe fly so high that even his strong lungs couldn’t breathe the thin air and he passed out.
He felt the faint tingling as his wings started to emerge, tips beginning to press into the fabric of his black shirt. He could’ve unfurled them so quickly that they tore clear through the thin cotton, but now he wasn’t really aware of letting them out, still lost in his daydream.
“Ein!” He jumped as a pair of arms came around him, forcing his own down at his sides. His arms were pinned to his sides at the elbows, and he felt his wings drawing back in as his back pressed against a warm body.
“What?” Ein’s voice sounded weak and husky even to his own ears. He hadn’t noticed until that moment that there was a steady flow of tears coursing down his face and dripping from his chin.
“You shouldn’t be out here… It felt like you were just going to fly away and leave us there for a minute kiddo. You’re thinking on it so hard that even I felt it.” A few strands of fiery red hair mixed with the black hair whipping around Ein’s face, confirming what he had been certain of the second he’d heard that low voice call his name.
“Huh, maybe I was. Wouldn’t it be easier, Reed? If I just left, if I took off and left everything? If I kept going ‘til my wings couldn’t carry me…then you and Kat would be safe, you wouldn’t have to be involved in this mess anymore…” He felt the edge of his tears making his voice catch, but he didn’t care; no point in hiding feelings when your company could sense them anyway…
He suddenly couldn’t stand it anymore, he let his wings surge out; the sound of fabric ripping merging with the startled ‘oomph’ when his wings slammed into Reed. He almost broke the grip on his arms and was in the process of spreading his wings wide when he heard and echo of the tearing fabric.
The surprise left him off guard and his body was crushed back against Reed’s again, strong arms caging him as before. This time though, a pair of white wings swirled with a dusty red pattern came around him as well, enfolding him and his own ebony feathers in their marginally bigger cover.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?!” Reed’s voice, usually so laid back, came out sharp and angry.
“What I said, I’m just going to leave…” Ein murmured struggling weakly, not really wanting to escape the warm arms that held him. “What are you doing, someone could see you. They might see you.” The thought, however ridiculous -if they could see Reed then they would’ve attacked them both already- made his heart skip a beat.
“The hell you’re leaving! You really think it’s that easy? Maybe it would get them off me and Kat, but that wouldn’t stop them completely. And what about us? What do I tell Kat or your father?” Reed’s arms tightened around him and he felt his head resting on his shoulder.
“What do I do if you leave, kiddo? You can’t just give in like that, not when so many people are fighting for you.” Reed sighed against his neck, making him shiver.
“You don’t have to fight for me Reed, I never asked anyone to fight this for me.” Ein hissed, almost angry but not quite.
“How stupid are you? You think I’m fighting for you because I feel obligated or because I’m just some good person? I’m fighting this for myself, I’m fighting for you- so that I don’t lose you. So knowing that, how can you think I’d let you run away for my sake?”
Ein wasn’t sure what to say to that, but he knew that he wasn’t going to get away now; and he knew he didn’t really want to run anymore. He drew his wings in and leaned back against Reed, he didn’t know what to say but he recognized a confession when he heard one.
Reed’s wings slid away and disappeared into his back shortly after, and Ein could feel that he was hesitant to move because he didn’t know what Ein was thinking. He managed to hold back an overwhelming wave of emotion for exactly thirty seconds before he turned in Reed’s arms and let out a long aching sob in the curve of his shoulder.
Reed stumbled and they both dropped to the rough sand, Ein throwing his arms around Reed’s neck and holding on tightly. He let sob after sob rack his body as Reed held him, he let out all the frustration from the past few days and all the elation that had caught him by surprise when Reed had confessed to him. He hadn’t realized how much he had wanted Reed until that moment, hadn’t realized how much he wanted to feel him this close until he’d caught him in his arms.
His sobs finally calmed and eventually stopped altogether, but he stayed leaning into Reed’s shoulder, breathing in the heavy scent of cigarettes and cinnamon.
“Hey kiddo, it’s getting dark out here, we should head back to the house; Kat’s worried.” Reed’s fingers combed through his hair. The movement was still hesitant, and Ein realized he hadn’t given the older boy any reason to think he’d acknowledged his admission.
Ein sat up straighter in Reed’s arms and studied his face for a moment before leaning closer and pressing their lips together in a short kiss. “Not yet… I just want to stay with you for a little while longer.” He murmured as he rested his forehead against Reed’s. He wasn’t sure how Kat would react to the two of them curled up back at the house, so he wanted a little longer to feel only Reed with him.
“Alright…” Reed murmured; jade eyes filled with happiness as they held Ein’s silvery gaze. He let Ein lean against him and they sat quietly in the sand, holding on to each other.
A/N: As I said, it's a random scene from the middle that I felt like writing. It may not even be how their first kiss goes, but the image was in my head and I felt like writing it up X3. So, if nothing else you got a small taste of my boys and I hope you like them so far! Reviews/Concrit is appreciated, you can never improve too much!
